I got the lap band done a little over a month ago. I've only lost about 10 lbs since the surgery so far. I live in Sioux Falls, SD and I really don't have much of a support group so this has been real hard for me. I know I made the right decision, I just have to get my mind on the right track.

You need support and this is the best place to get it if you can't get to a support meeting. I have found that keeping in check with this site has helped me a lot. I have met wonderful people on this board that have been very supportive. Get checked in and make friends here.

Also, I recommend that you look for the Bandster Support group. It is located in the Support section and than you look for the year and month that you were banded. This group was banded the same month as you and it is great because they are going through some of the same things.

Best of luck in your journey and with support and lifestyle changes you will do just great.

Cindy

I spoke to some one who can to work about it and since I work at the sister hospital they do the surgery at she said my insurance should cover it and it would take about 8 weeks if all goes well with tests. How does everyone do this? I've been heavy all my life and I want to be thinner and healthier but I'm scared. Does that make any sense to anyone?

Ya'll sound just like me. I thought that I would never make it to my first goal, then my second and so forth. I was scared to death to get banded because I didn't know how to live as a thinner person. I didn't want to be like so many other people that I knew that had lost weight and thought that they were better than the overweight people around them. They seemed to have forgotten that they were FAT at one time too. So far everyone says that my personality has changed for the better and it is due to my renewed self esteem. I want all of you to follow the rules the doctor gives u no matter how much u may hate them. If you don't go by the rules, then u won't lose as well. Good luck to you all and if I can do anything for you just message me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
