Am I Too Old For Banding Opp

Recommended Posts

LOL I'm 41 and just got my surgery approved today. I don't know how old "IAmwithTheBand" is, but if he/she thinks 40 is old, he ought to think again. Can't wait until HE turns 40. :)

But anyway, nothing could get me down today! I am on cloud nine!

Congratulations - I remember the day I got the call and my surgery was approved and I got my date... I was just so jazzed and on top of the world..

As you can see "thechild aka Iamwiththeband" hasn't been back - I wonder why :)

Hi Damiene, I wish you would join us on the "over 60" or sixties forum. We have maybe 30 members. You will notice that there are very few complaints about pain from the band. Most of us know what real pain is and just took the surgical discomfort from this minor procedure in stride. As one said "we are tough old birds". Hope to see you there.

I don't think that older people should have the surgery, either, but I think the cut-off age should be 50.

I actually agree with whoever you're all disagreeing with. And I hate to put a target on my back, because I know I'll get heat, but I think that choosing to have surgery when the reason itn'st life threatening it a bad idea for older people.

Especially older obese people, who are unhealthy and iffy to begin with.

So, I guess I agree with Iamwiththeband, and I'm not going to be very popular because I said that :-)

I just told someone last night that 50 is the new 29. (I turned 50 in december)

I've declared 50 to be "The Year of Jena" I'm old enough to decide what I want to change and rich enough to afford it. Heh! I've got my convertible sports car, a way cool job as an Engineer for a social media firm, I just had Lasik surgery, I'm having facials every month and massages every 2 weeks, I'm taking swimming lessons, I've hired a trainer, have a goal to do an Ironman competition for my 55th birthday, I've lost 21 pounds and I'm getting a band to help me lose the other 170 pounds!

What other people think about any decisions I make has no affect on me. :)

Who else besides me is making this "The Year of <insert your name here>"

Jena

I am one to always repect someones opinion but, I just wonder if "Iamwiththeband" realizes how totally ridiculous that sounds?!

NO ONE should ever give up on being healthy at any age!!!!

...."opinions are like smiles....everybody has one"....

Those who are offering their idea about 'too old in their opinion', seem to all be lacking both credibility AND experience, let alone knowledge OR training not to mention social skills...in fact, at this very moment, I'm trying to recall just when the advise of anyone under the age of 45 proved to actually be worth listening to...about anything....

Well said - Ditto!!!

Yeah, some people just don't "get" that they're not wanted. Must really need some attention for it to be worth coming back, and back, and back, and back...

JACK!! I am 41 and deeply, deeply hurt. In fact, I may never recover from this. First, I have to call my doctor and have my band removed because I am too old, and now my advise won't be any good for another four years!! :crying:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
