Doctor changed diet today.....

Recommended Posts

Hi, everyone, I am 4 days post op and I have posted about being gaseous and both of my calf muscles are beginning to knot up. I am on liquids, so I called the office today because I can bearly get enough liquids down before the gas pains hit hard. I believe I am knotting up because I am not taking in enough liquids; I try but the band will only let me drink so much and then I am full and in pain from gas. The nurse changed me to full liquids and I feel so much better, the gas is almost gone. She told me to buy orange juice with no pulp too for potassium. I am so glad she lifted this gas and muscle ordeal off of me. Anybody else had to move up to the next stage before time?

Your legs are probably hurting if during your brief hospital stay they put those boots on you to prevent blood clots. After my surgery my calves felt like I ran a marathon.

Are you drinking shakes mixed with milk? Sometimes you can get real bad gas...try using lactose free milk and see if it changes.

HI, I was only doing Clear Liquids, no shakes. Just Water, splenda juice, and broth. I will start a shake today since the doctor/nurse has okayed me to do so. I will only use water, I have suffered to bad with this gas.

Hi, I thought about the Splenda, but the gas started the first day I was home. I only drank Water the first day. I finally drunk juice like yesterday. You have to drink something and my instructions was for it to be sugar free. I ate a sugar free yogurt after I was told to move to the next stage and I was fine, gas pains are minor now. The cramping of my muscles in my legs always have indicated to me that I need more fluids, especially if I am not eating normally.

Hi, they did not authorize me to eat mushy foods, like mashed potatoes and stuff, just full liquids. Yogurt is considered a full liquid on their list. Everything must be sugar free. I really do not have a stomach for solid foods right now.

I just ate lowfat thinned creamed Soup with no chunks of course, I feel so much better. Thinned cream soup is on my full liquids list. Gas pain is almost gone. Kudos to the nurse at my office.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
