Hello,

I'm Tanya and I am want to get the lapband done but my insurance does not cover any type of weight loss surgery. Does anyone have any suggestions for someone with not so good credit?

Hi Tanya! I was a lucky one, my insurance covered the majority of my surgery. I did have to come up with about $4,000, which I didn't have just laying around. My credit isn't perfect either and I knew a loan was out of the question. I ended up asking my dad for the money (which was really hard). Can you borrow it from anyone? If you work, can you take a loan from a 401(k) plan? Do you have any equity in your home and possibly get a loan from that?

Hi Tanya...sorry about your situation. Seems like insurance companies should recognize that this is actually a money saving proposition for them.

I wonder if your insurance carrier would cover your pre-op testing (most will cover at least some) while you do some work on your credit score and start saving some money. There are some message boards at FICO Forums - FICO Forums These people seem to be the experts at what will get your numbers up quickly.

Best of luck to you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
