Does it make you CRAZY??

...this whole process of jumping through the hoops?!? I go to bed thinking about it, I wake up thinking about it. During the day, I am trying to think of all the things I might need so that they will approve me. I am so consumed by it that sometimes I don't even call friends like I used to! I go for my initial surgeon consultation on Monday so I am hoping I will get some insight as to "when" I might foresee this happening. However, I don't know that life is ever going to be the same again!

I know how you feel. I was that way at first. As soon as I found out that bcbs started covering it, my life revolved around it. I talked about it all the time. Once I had my initial visit with the surgeon and had a couple of the supervised visits out of the way, things got back to normal. In fact I had several people as me if I was still doing it, because I hadn't said anything about in a while. Then once I was approved, my life started revolving around it again...LOL! Now I am driving everyone crazy again.

It will get easier.... =)

Well, I went for my 1st consult visit with the surgeon today and everything went well. Thanks to my extensive LBT history, he ended up answering a few questions that he said he had never been asked before!

I showed up with an envelope full of history for the insurance coordinator... at least 5 years worth, a letter from my old PCP, a letter from my GYN, a letter from a plastic surgeon I had consulted in the past, and just about every test/visit I have had in my lifetime (that I could get my hands on) related to my weight.

You know what she said??? I think this will do it. What? I'm sorry, I didn't hear you correctly... could you repeat that? Yep, she said it: I THINK this will do it.   WHEN, WHEN, WHEN THEN?? She said all I had to do was attend the nutrition class, the next one being Wednesday AND to start my preop diet that same day. Following the class, that afternoon, she would send it in to BCBS. So, she said I should know something, at the lastest, by FRIDAY!!

DH and I left the office in shock. He looks at me and says, "I thought this was supposed to be a lot harder than that?" I said, yeah, me too. So, even though, I know it's pretty obvious that I'm not doing a good job of trying not to get my hopes up, it's pretty hard to think that it's not and that I am on my way to being a MAY FLOWER!!! :frown::lol::sad::sad::tongue_smilie:

So maybe being crazy (at least for a little while) has paid off! I sure hope so.... hopefully Friday I will have "the rest of the story"

Thanks Diane,

I am trying real hard not to get overly excited until I get the final word but it's really hard to do especially when she told me to start the preop diet and I really don't think she would do that if she wasn't feeling confident about it.

Where in Alabama are you? You may have said in another post but I can't remember! :) I'm in Prattville.

Thanks for sharing in my EXCITEMENT!!

I'm in Sylacauga, just up the road! I think you are probably right about knowing what they're doing. They do this all day long for a lot of people, we just think we're the only ones!

What doctor did you settle with?

I decided to go with Dr. Touliatos. I really liked that he doesn't have a set timing for fills, he is pretty conservative on the postop diet, and he is in a good part of town. One of the other physicians that I was considering I liked at least as well but his location was YUCK.

Thanks Di4AU! Actually, I'm positive it will be in May. She said it only takes 2 to 3 weeks to get scheduled and that is really just because he wants me on the preop diet that long -- which, I notice you seem to be doing a great job on yours! :w00t: Anyway, we would have scheduled yesterday but he has to sign off on my chart or something like that so she said she would call Monday or Tuesday!

However, I'm going with Shrinko de Mayo's! Isn't that cute?? Some of the May 5th girls came up with it and I think it is PRECIOUS!

BTW, I thought I would literally go INSANE waiting on LBT to come back up. Longest 15-30 minutes (yeah right) of my life! Unfortunately, I'm not sure all the glitches are out yet. When I click on forums it takes me to a page that says it isn't working. Oh, well, glitches or not, glad it's back up!! :tongue2:

Well, it sounds like you're all set! I do love the Shrinko de Mayo's name! I'm not on any pre-op diet, I guess you're looking at someone elses' ticker, but thanks anyway. I only have to do a two day liquid pre-op, but mostly liquid post op for 4-6 weeks.

The forum problems have been driving me nuts, too! At least I have figured out what my new addiction is going to be :w00t: . I was literally MAD for the last couple of days, not able to pull it up.

Will do... starting to get butterflies now. Also, a big case of emotional. I have spent the last 2 days crying. I know DH wonders during times like this what exactly it was he signed up for! :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
