Hi everyone,

This is my first time on this forum and I'm not exactly sure how to use this site but I'll give it a try.

I had my surgery (lapband) on 3/9/07 and have lost approximately 65 pounds total. (about 55 lbs. have been since my surgery, the other 10 pounds were prior to surgery). My band is filled 2.3cc's. I am having difficulty with heartburn. Anytime I eat or especially drink anything, I get indigestion or burping. The heartburn gets really bad during the night, I have to sleep on my back with extra pillows to prop up my head so that I can atleast sleep through the night without getting sick. I have an appointment with my Dr. next week and I think he may loosen my band. I really don't want to have my band loosened because I feel that I need more restriction in order to continue loosing weight. At meals, I never really feel full, I'm just not able to physically eat any more food without getting sick. I do not drink during my meals either.

I am happy with the amount of weight that I have lost so far but I still have another 50 pounds to go and I don't seem to be loosing as much as I should be. I work out with a personal trainer 2 to 3 times a week and I also take ZUMBA aroebic classes twice a week. I am not able to eat many carbs but I do seem to have a new SWEET tooth. I am always craving chocolate. I never use to crave chocolate prior to surgery, I was more of a large portion eater than a sweets eater.

I am not sure what to do. I think that I am getting plenty of exercise and I really don't overeat. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for listening.

Hi Sonia! It sounds to me like you are doing great!! 65 pounds lost in under a year is awesome, I only hope I can do as well when (not if!!) I get banded. Ask your doc or nutritionist about how to curb the carb cravings, I bet they have loads of suggestions. I hope your path gets easier to travel. April

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
