Anyone used Dr. Niazy Selim at University of Kansas Medical Center?

Recommended Posts

I am having a meltdown. I know others have said it took them several months to get their surgery date. I have been trying for 7 months to get something done. I had to change doctors due to insurance change. That took time. I have done everything the ins. has required. Just can't get a surgery date. Not even a pre-surgery consultation. It seems that Dr. Selim has one secretary and she had an operation and has been gone. Does anyone know anything about Dr. Selim at KU Med. Center?

Hey there, lilred. I'm in the KC area and have heard of him but didn't use him. Have you asked the Yahoo KCBandster group too?

I know some of the area docs have so many new patients that the wait list for surgery can be several months. My doc even had a 2-3 month wait for fills for a while there, but he hired some new staff and its better now.

There was a surgeon at KU (I think - been a while) who, about 2 or 3 years ago, got some bad reviews here. The use of the needle or something like that, nothing about the surgery itself. And I really can't even remember if that was the surgeon. You might want to try running some searches on the surgeon's name or facility and see what you can come up with.

Hi Diane,

Thanks for the info. I guess I am just going to have to be patient. I am 59yrs old and 4'10" and 205lbs. I have had heart surgery and my cardiologist is having fits. On top of that, the weight is killing me. I get a little anxious because I know my heart can't take much. I had another doctor picked out but he only does the surgery at one facility and it isn't on my insurance. Again thanks for answering.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
