First Seminar Tomorrow @ 6:30pm

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone!

I have been reading your forum for quite awhile. Finally, now that it is the eve of my first seminar, I decided to join this wonderful forum.

I am a bit confused as to how many steps it will take for me to get a surgery date. I do know that I can make an appointment with my surgeon after I have attended tomorrow night's seminar. That is all that I was told on the telephone.

My family doctor told me to call quickly because there's alot to do before surgery, can anyone estimate the time between the first seminar and their surgery?

Thank you for reading my post.

Kat

Welcome Kat!

It's been about six months between first weigh-in and seminar until my surgery date (April 30).

My surgeon (Dr. Peter Kwon / Tri-State Bariatrics in Middletown, NY) requires lots of pre-op activity....

* upper GI

* visit with dietician

* clearance from primary physician

* gastro clearance

* cardio clearance

* visit an informational website (Emmi)

* psychometric test

* behavioral evaluation

* two support groups

* lose 5% of current weight

Whew!

There was a woman at one of the support groups who said she got everything done within a month. I travel quite a bit for my job, but I was doing something every month of that time.

I'm glad I only have two weeks to go!

Hi Kat,

It will have taken me 6 months by the time I have surgery on May 29th. I was so sad and frustrated yesterday, because in everything I read, people said it took them two-six weeks. I have everything done. I had it ALL done in a matter of two weeks, but my doctor is over booked. He has me waiting another 10 weeks after my approval. I rationalize this by saying my doctor does so many I should be in good hands. I have been fat for 15 years, so what is another 10 weeks...5 now. I think there are so many variables that no one can tell you what to expect. Good luck and God speed.

There is really no set time frame. Self pay people tend to get done sooner than insurance people, I would assume because they don't have to wait for approval. It also depends on the requirements of your surgeon and insurance company as far as testing, diet, etc. Like someone else said, if you've been fat ____ years, what is a few more weeks?

Good luck!

Thank-you to Christine, Donita and Kathy for your replies. You all have really helped alot. I've been waiting three weeks just for my first seminar, which is tonight at 6:30pm, I was told that I can make an appointment with my surgeon after the seminar so I assume that then is when I will find out what my protocol will be, depending on my surgeon, my insurance company and if he has a waiting list. This has helped me alot, big thanks to all of you! I am excited about becoming a "real" part of the forum, which will be after I have completed my seminar!!!

Hi...This is my first post. I have been lurking since November. I went to two different seminars with two seperate doctors. I am in the process of getting all my dodtor appointments done so I can meet with the surgeon. I hope to be ready to do that in early May. I want to plan on having surgery in July.

Enchanted I live in Orange County, NY. I went to my second seminar in Middletown, NY with Dr. Daniel Davis who will perform surgery from Valley Health Hospital in New Jersey.

Nice meeting you all.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
