Alabama/Georgia area??

Recommended Posts

It has been a while since I have been on the site. We moved out of state and one thing leads to another and now I am back doing research on the band. Needing to look in to where I can go in Alabama or Georgia for the banding and then for subsequent fills and care. We live near Auburn and very close to Columbus, GA. Atlanta isn't too far, but would really like to find something closer if possible.

If I find a surgeon to do the surgery, even if it is a distance away, what are the chances of finding a Dr. closer by that would "take over" from there to do the fills??

Hi!! I am from Anniston in east Alabama. I am getting banded on May 8 at Trinity Medical center in birmingham. There are several others in B-ham that do the surgery, but this is where I had my son and it is a great place. My surgeon is Dr. Tuoliatos, he is with Advanced Surgeons. You can search it on google. I hope this helps you!!

I'm in Huntsville, AL but my band surgeon is in Anniston, AL.. which is pretty close to Auburn. I really recommend him, he's awesome.. Dr. Freeman.

There are also Birmingham docs, which aren't too terribly far, I think Dr. Miles & Dr. Black are the names?

Hi, I am in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Titius Duncan is one of the best, Peachtree Surgical Associates. They are a center of Excellence. I had surgery on Monday and feeling good, incisions were not that sore, gas pain was a pain. That was about it. He is a very busy doctor, but he knows what he is doing.

Hi Asasbama,

I am in Fort Payne as well, can you please tell me who your surgeon was in Albertville? I have attened a siminar by Dr. Grooves and he seems wonderful, I have also heard great things about Dr. Freeman in Anniston. I would so appreciate your input on how you are doing with your lapband, I am trying to decide whether to band or to go with the bypass surgery.

I am thrilled you are getting to go to Auburn, my daughter lived down there for a while and it is truly one of the most beautiful places ever - Congratulations!

Thanks!

Patricia

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
