Nausea and hiccups

Recommended Posts

I was banded 3 days ago. I am experiencing terrible nausea and hiccups and just the thought of anything to eat or drink makes it worse. I'm not throwing up because I haven't been able to drink anything. However, I do feel like I could get 'dry heaves', The dr. prescribed some phenergan and it seems to help a little but the nausea doesn't completely go away. How long does this last? Should I call my dr?

You should call your surgeon's office. You are going to dehydrate! I know its terrible but even little sips of Water help.

Call your doctor, he can prescribe something different. Dry heaving is very dangerous to the band in this stage and dehydration is a big concern so get on that phone.

I don't know if this will work once banded, but I have a no fail cure for regular hiccups.

For those that can drink liquids easily, have someone put their hands over your ears to seal them while you guzzle a glass of Water. Can you guzzle once banded? Drinking slower may work too, as long as the seal is good.

Now that is a hiccup cure I have never heard of before!!!

I agree, call your Dr. Sounds like you have some serious swelling going on--hiccups are often a stop signal---so you might be swelling and making your body think you are full.

Dehydration can be extremely dangerous, so get in touch with your Dr.....before it becomes a problem.

Let us know what the Dr. says----and I hope you feel better soon!!

Please do not allow your self to dehydrate. You may need to see your surgeon and he may order iv fluids if you are unable to tolerate drinking due to nausae. I was banded on 4/8, had very little pain but because nausaeted day 5 and yesterday had to have 1 liter of iv fluids. Today I am feeling very good.

I get a gurgeling sensation and it is loud. (people can hear it when I'm on the phone) I will get pain in the left shoulder and sometimes some pain in my cheeks (face) when eating. I have heard the term slime, slimming, slimmers.... DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHAT ALL THIS IS ABOUT?:)

OMG SOMEONE ELSE THAT DOES THIS..LOL I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE. MY 6TH GRADE TEACHER TOLD US ABOUT THIS AND IT WORKS EVERYTIME. HAVE BEEN DOING IT EVER SINCE ALTHOUGH IF YOU DONT HAVE SOMEONE TO HOLD YOUR EARS. USE A STRAW IN YOUR DRINK AND HOLD YOUR OWN EARS. :)

Sliming-----is what the body does to try to help us pass something that it perceives is stuck.

Usually you get the stuck feeling from either eating too much, or eating a bite that is too big. The body thinks it is stuck, and just naturally tries to help. You begin producing huge amounts of what we call slime--it is an extremely thick, sticky saliva. There is no bad taste---it just seems to pour out of your mouth, and glands at the back of the mouth. The purpose is to slick things up to help them pass. The problem is, if you are already full, or something is seriously stuck, there is nowhere for all this saliva/slime to go. The best case scenario is to spit it out, in a cup or something you can toss---but often if you try to swallow it, there is simply too much, and it causes a PB.

This is NOT and band issue. Non banded people who choke on something, their bodies do the same thing! My DH choked on a piece of chicken, actually got it stuck in his esophagus. It swallowed past the trachea and he could breath, but nothing was coming up or going down, and he slimed like crazy!! The ER Dr. said it was normal! I thought it was a band thing----but it isn't!

Anyway, sometimes as you spit it up it appears foamy----other times you can blow massive bubbles with it as you try to spit it out, it is not fun. It is also not a huge ordeal! It is another of those lessons you learn----it reminds you to chew well, and stop before making yourself too full.

That is sliming.......it usually happens to us all eventually. But you learn!

I got nausea 2 days after surgery. I ended up back in the hospital because I couldn't control my throwing up. The surgeon removed the initial 2 ccs that were placed in my band and I was fine. I guess I just had a sensitive stomach. If you are throwing up, then get something to stop it now. I took Zofron and it helped a lot. Call your surgeon.

If I am on my own, I find earplugs work too. :biggrin2:

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
