Cadets71 1 Posted April 16, 2008 What does the term "Rep Power" mean? It is located on the left side of each person's post, underneath their name, age, join date, number of posts, etc. I can't find an explanation anywhere. Thanks, Mary 1 LilMissDiva Irene reacted to this
LilMissDiva Irene 3,282 Posted April 16, 2008 If you liked someone's post enough to give them credit for it, you can click the little scales next to the "online" indicator. Leave a little message and click "OK". Your rep number will go up with every time someone clicks the scales for you. 3 BeverlyDiane, jbrad71629 and seppi reacted to this
faithmd 14 Posted April 19, 2008 Wait, I thought it was decided a few months back that "Rep Power" was not a desired feature to have here. Many felt it was almost like having a popularity contest and it was getting out of hand in the short time we had it. I see no point to it, I feel it is a very bad thing to have, especially on a site like this where so often people are already often emotional or on an emotional roller coaster with what is happening in their lives. If I have a higher "rep" is someone more likely to believe me (even if I may be wrong) than someone with low or no rep (who may be correct)? I'd like to see it go away (again) and this time NEVER come back. I thought it was a buried idea LONG AGO. 1 tyme4change reacted to this
faithmd 14 Posted April 19, 2008 Found some links to threads about it from 1 year ago, it was done away with then secondary to problems, I dunno why it's back. The first thread is a GREAT explanation Wheetsin gave for it: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f5/wheetsin-s-definitive-thread-reputation-rep-power-34072/index2.html http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f5/rep-power-33719/ http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f80/rep-power-33786/
MrsFlipFlops 2 Posted April 21, 2008 LilMiss- can you view the comments people put? I couldn't find mine in User CP- maybe mine is just from the amount of postings I've done. I don't really see the point of this, why did it suddenly appear?
Wheetsin 714 Posted April 21, 2008 Faith - Alex disabled rep a while ago. We were having hurt feelings and people being vindictive if they received negative rep. During some recent updates, Alex unintentionally turned rep back on, but only the positive rep. Since the negative rep was what had caused the fiasco previously, he decided to leave it turned on. Wheetsin 714 Posted April 21, 2008 Rep doesn't serve a specific purpose other than, well, rep. So if it's meaningless/pointless to you, the good news is that it's just one line and easy enough to ignore. There are some boards that are fanatic about rep. Their reasoning is -- the higher someone's rep, the more likely they know their stuff, and if newbies come and see higher rep, they're more likely to really pay attention to that person (as opposed to someone with lower rep, who may be more likely to lead them astray). 1 Alex Brecher reacted to this

None of which is true, of course. Rep can be fun, but let's remember that it is all just for fun and really means nothing.
Turler 6 Posted May 3, 2008 So how many Rep comments do people have to leave you before you gain a point? ~C
Daisalana 33 Posted May 5, 2008 What are the new rep power numbers?
mss 1 Posted May 6, 2008 I have never seen one of these rep things before and I had been racking my brains trying to figure out what the numbers meant. I am glad that the negative one has been taken out - I could see how that could be hurtful to people. I am a big fan of giving people compliments though and will probably continue to do this through my posts to them on the threads. 1 tyme4change reacted to this

LilMissDiva Irene 3,282 Posted May 6, 2008 Brandy, click on your UserCP page and scroll all the way to the bottom. You will see I think your last five or so. PS, I am also interested to find out how the Power numbers work. So weird, one day I am a 1 and the next I am a 6??? 1 Brandy~ reacted to this
