I won't miss:

being told by a six year old I have a double chin while I'm trying to teach a lesson (out of the mouth of babes)

scoping out a room to see where is the best place for a fat person to sit

avoiding looking in mirrors

no one taking me seriously because I'm fat

staying home so no one will see me

ugly shoes

boob shelf

sweat rash

being tired all the time

telling the husband no because I'm embarrassed

buying ugly plus size clothes

having my skinny friends pull the table toward them so I can get into a seat at a restaurant

I most definitely will not miss:

Having to special order suits at a premium price just to get something that is stylish and fits and isn't fugly.

Praying when I checkin for a flight that I can get an aisle seat. The middle and window are too uncomfortable.

Being able to let down the snack tray on the plane and not having my belly block it.

Thinking constantly about my size

Assuming that someone is making a joke when they compliment my appearance.

Big and tall stores with old men's clothing.

Working extra hard so that no one thinks that I'm fat AND lazy

Rolling out of cars. I bought an SUV to avoid it.

Running for the back row in group photos, even though I'm always one of the shortest people there.

Hypertension

Fear of diabetes

Thinking I am going to have a heart attack.

I won't miss being the biggest person in the room.

Feeling invisible, especially with men when there are thinner women in the room.

Not even being considered as dating material.

Feeling more and more like less and less

Reading all these posts is so therapeutic, I pretty much can relate to each one of them. I often felt like I was the only person who worried so much about the little things in life!! Thanks everyone for sharing

I won't miss being labeled the fat guy.

Umm won't miss not being able to shop for trendy clothes.

Worrying about work uniforms fitting properly.

I DEF won't miss standing out with friends.

I can't wait!

I won't miss:

-Wondering how it feels to be thinner.

-My fat knees.

- The sound of my thighs rubbing together.

-Being the "funny fat girl".

- Always wearing tops with sleeves.

-Pretending like I'm ordering food for me AND someone else.

- Not feeling sexy or feminine enough.

- Being sweaty all the time.

- Shopping in specialty stores.

- Feeling disgusted with how much I ate.

-Crazy grocery bills.

-Not finding pants that fit.

- Being embarrased or wanting to cry when I see pics of me.

- Feeling hideous next to my beautiful older sister.

 Soon.

"Pretending like I'm ordering food for me AND someone else."

Yeah, and when I do this, I pretend I don't quite know what to get the other person. "Well, I guess, she'll want this. OK, give me one of those, too."

Omg I love this thread:thumbup:

I will not miss always running hot and excessive sweating for no apparent reason.

I simply can not wait until my internal thermometer is on par with everyone else.

Oh no I was no ordinary sweater....My scalp would sweat anytime the temp got above like 70, and the flop-sweat......oooh my it's just soooo disgusting.

That will be my "i got it" moment when I can function during the day without being so uncomfortable. :)

wow.... i swear this thread should be called "Reasons to have the surgery".

i've read all 14 pages, and i'm holding back tears. it sounds like my life.

i've been undecided about getting the surgery, but this thread has reminded why I don't want to be fat anymore. now if only I could figure out how to pay for it....

These are so true!! OMG!!!!! The two things I really WON'T miss will be

1. Sweating and feeling hot, when everyone else is shivering cold (yeah that one screams... "I have layers of fat on me and I'm burning up" Now you all know the real reason i moved from TN to CO!

2. Lane Bryant taking advantage of us fat chics b/c they have the only "cute" clothes... and jack their prices up! I'm NEVER shopping there again girls!!!! Can I hear an amen!! :smile2:

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
