Im in the process of doing all the preliminaries for my surgery. I hope to set a date for this summer. Tonight I got so emotional thinking about i broke down and was hysterically crying. Did this happen to anyone else? The band itself doesnt really scare me, its surgery itself. I'm afraid of waking up, complications, and so on. LEt me know if anyone else had some crazy emotions. Thanks!!

Hi i had a few moments this past week. I had my band done yesterday. It is a huge life change and i would imagine we all have to process that differently. I would advise finding someone that you can talk to about the entire thing so when you do feel that way you aren't ignoring your emotions and concerns. good luck!

Hello

I find it really interesting to hear other peoples concerns and see how we all worry about such different things! I am pre band I hope to have mine fitted next month. I think you are right to have concerns I mean it is a life changing thing we are all signing up for here. I had surgery recently in my mouth although it was painful I bounced right back and was up and about the same day and raring to go home! Although surgery is never fun it did take away all my surgery fears for having the lap band done.

There will be an anaesthetist monitoring you all through out the surgery and I have heard it is very rare people wake up whilst under the aesthetic. Complications may arise but you will have medical care on hand and from reading this excellent forum the complications seem to be very few and far between!

Hope that was of some help!

I just want you to know that you are not alone with this emotional rollercoaster! My surgery is set for April 30 and as the days get closer I get more and more anxious, nervous, and frustrated. I am also afraid of how life is going to be after the surgery. I just keep thinking about the skinny person inside who will be free again after all is done and that gets me through these emotions. I think I am driving my husband crazy with all my emotions :crying:. Good luck to you!

I am on the same roller coaster. I pulled my hair out and cried the month I had to wait to hear back from the insurance and then when I got approved I was extatic but about an hour later I had a panic attack. This week I am bouncing back and forth between panic, fear, happy and anger. I feel like my world is about to be turned upside down. And though there are so many positives and I am going to be so much better off in the long run I have never been one to deal well with change. Too many control issues I guess. :crying: I totally understand where you are coming from.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
