My Turn - Thursday April 17th

Recommended Posts

I'm currently scheduled for banding on Thursday April 17th - less than two days to go! They called and rescheduled my surgery from its original time of 8:30am, and I now have to leave the house around 5am to get there in time for my 6am check-in. Kind of brutal, since I have two small children to get in gear as well, but I'm willing to do what it takes to see that things stay on track.

Since getting a surgery date, I've gone through the whole range of emotions, but seem to have finally settled on excitement and eagerness. I've been doing my pre-op diet of 4 Medifast shakes and a Lean Cuisine (though it's been more like 2-3 shakes a day) for about a week now, and I've already lost 15lbs! I may just go into this surgery having met one of my goals (of being under 300).

I've been reading the LBT forums for a little while now, and am so glad I found this place. Such an amazingly supportive group of diverse people, with a wealth of information to share. Anyway, I'm a rambler and could probably go on and on here, but I'll just wish everyone the best of luck on their journeys. Take care!

Highest = 330 / Starting = 315 / Current = 300 / Goal = 150

Thanks for the well wishes! I'm now on "the other side" and have my lap band in place.

Surgery went well, didn't take as long as I thought (granted, I remember taking deep breaths and then was sitting in recovery, staring at the clock, an hour and a half later... heh) and I'm doing pretty good. There are a couple issues I plan to call my doctor's office about tomorrow, though I'm sure it's nothing. Other than that, just some soreness (like I've done a few hundred crunches) and gas pains, but I have just about everything I'd need to combat any of those types of problems. I've been up and walking around as much as possible, which was recommended, and I truly believe makes a difference. I'm sure that the next best thing in feeling better will just be time.

I'm already down about 20lbs from when I started my pre-op diet on the 10th, and I hope to see that trend continue.

Best of luck to everyone on the rest of their journey, and to those who are just getting started!

I have had tubal surgery where they went through the abdomen and you will feel like you did crunches till the stomach muscles begin to heal since they were tore apart.

Hi! I was banded at NWWLS by Dr Montgomery! Please let me know how you are doing. I started a blog all about my experience (you can see it via the link below in my sig). Can't wait to hear about your experience - mine was fantastic!

Hi Lise - Everything went well, and I'm 4 days post-op. I haven't had any major complications *knock on wood* and am just working on healing properly. My port site is pretty sore still and stings when I move a certain way, but it's not too bad. I'm just wondering when I'll actually start to feel hungry, since right now it's a bit of a struggle to want to eat anything. So far, the only things that sound remotely good are popsicles, gatorade g2, Water, the occasional bites of Jello... I've had 1/4 cup of Soup here or there, but even that doesn't taste great. I tried to drink one of my leftover Medifast shakes, but couldn't bare to choke down more than 4 sips. Guess that's just something that'll change once I'm further along?

I've bookmarked your blog and will definitely follow along. Thanks!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
