Eating slow...

Recommended Posts

I agree with babs. I was banded on March 24. I have had no fill and they installed the band with no fill. If I eat too fast I know it, if I eat too big of a bite I know it. It hurts! I work at a culinary school so sometimes its pretty hard not to go taste this or that. Yesterday they made sugar free cupcakes and brought me one. It was nice and warm, right out of the oven (no frosting, just plain white cupcake). It was so delicious that I gobbled it right down and seconds later... i felt it coming back up. I had my head hanging over the trash can for about 5 minutes! I forget about the band occasionally and that is my punishment!!! I have only done it twice now and the first time was because I took too big of a bite and did not chew well enough.

Good luck!

I am certain if you had eaten your cup cake slow would have been ok, now i eat slowly i basically can eat anything.

I too did it in stages. I started practicing my chewing (and even typing it, it looks strange) pre-banding. I removed my glass from the dinner table as step 2. Smaller plate - Step 3. Dessert fork not regular fork - Step 5. Since banding I have had my first (and I hope only) painful reminder of the 'chew chew chew' mantra.

I am still working on putting my fork down between bites. I am a work in progress, I guess.

Chew chew chew.

I love the chopstick advise.

Here is my tip for you conserning drinking AFTER meals. I have a timer. On my desk at work. When I come back from lunch I set the timer for an hour. When it dings I can drink to my hearts content. but as long as it is ticking I cannot drink. It helps me...at least while I am at work. At home. ( I live alone) I just dont fix a drink for dinner.

I was a slow eater before compared to others. Now I have to take it in a slow pause motion. bite, pause pause pause, bite. I also try to eat away from tv/computer/distraction and just focus on eating. I get full so fast, so its really hard.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
