This past weekend I went to "the happiest place on earth", Disney World, and found it to be not that happy. In an effort to spoil myslef, I made an appointment for a regular 50 minute massage. Upon finding out that I had surgery two months ago, they said I had a "contra-indication" and would not give me the massage. Has anyone experienced this? It is not like they massage your stomach!! They said they required a note from my doctor if I have had any surgery in the last year. I didn't even bother trying to get since my doctor was 250 miles away and probably much too busy to deal with this nonsense. Should I have not told them or is it really dangerous??:confused:

hi i am a licensed massage therapist and i would have been ok. i have to say the when you have the bypass you have to wait about a month before getting a massage but the band you dont have to wait. i think the main concern is that you have to lay on your stomach for most of the massage and for some that may be uncomfortable. i work on people all of the time who just had some type of surgery and its ok. i do work at a doctors office and she sends me clients who have had surgery.

I was banded on Feb. 12th and went on a cruise March 15th. I had a massage with a seaweed wrap where they rub seaweed all over and then a back massage. I told her I had surgery and she didn't seem to concerned at all. Sorry you weren't able to have your planned massage but I hope you had a great time anyway......

i think Disney is just being super safe. But I so had a massage within my first year post op without a Dr.'s note.

Wonder if the massage therapist could have been concerned about blood clots? My mom is a MT, and I know she is super careful with folks pre and post operative. Whatever the surgery.

I'm also a qualified massage therapist and I wouldn't have touched you either.

I won't massage someone until 6 months post op.

Bear in mind, it's mostly not got to do with your surgery - a lot of the time it is an insurance requirement. It can void your insurance so if something happens and someone tries to sue you, your insurance will not cover.

All therapists will have their own requirements based on their insurance and governing bodies requirements.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
