Stepping out of denial...

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I just stepped out of denial and into the light about my ongoing weight problem recently and decided that there was only one option left-weight loss surgery.

I, like many of you have been on every diet imaginable since I was 17; it is a list of around 10 diets or so, not to mention the seperate times I tried them again and again!

I have a good friend that had LB surgery done last fall. We have the same insurance, and she is a valuable asset in knowing what to do to get the process completed.

My surgeon evaluation is next Tuesday, my BMI is 40.0, and my insurance is BCBS of KC (kansas city). I am 37 years old and ready to roll...

Wish me luck!!

I am new to the site and want to put the weight loss ticker on but am not sure how to do it. I saw yours and set mine up from there but when I was told to copy and paste it, I wasn't sure where to put it. Can you help?

I had the exact same problem. GO to "ticker stuff" in the intro's and follow to the tutorial that someone set up. It really helped me.

Nuali, I remember being new here almost 2 years ago. How exciting! Good luck with your surgeon's appointment. Welcome aboard.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
