Hi, I'm currently banded, I was banded about 3 years ago by Dr. Patterson in Portland, OR. I have lost a total of 230 pounds, but due to complications I have gained almost 80 of them back (band erroded into the stomach) :huh2: This is the only problem I have run into. I am 100% positive that I would still have done this if I had seen what was ahead. Right now I am waiting to hear from my doctor to see her view on my endoscopy from last week and schedule an appointment or something.

Erin,

Sorry to hear that. I hope you are able to have the band put back on. Is this something your ins. will take care of for you? Were you in a lot of pain? Are you feeling better now? I haven't been banded yet, but your situation is the only real one that bothers me enough to think twice about having it. The 80 lbs aren't good, but think how much you are still down and have a chance to re-do. Good luck!

Donita,

To be honest, I didn't feel anything. I only noticed that something was wrong when i started to gain the weight, but thought that it was just due to stress of Finals and then vacation, but realized I should get it checked out. The one thing that I learned about insurance is that if they pay for the initial surgery they have to pay for the followup and what I like to call "up-keep" surgeries. I can't tell you if this is normal not to feel the pain, but I wasn't in any pain from the surgery either. I was up 1 hr after waking in recovery and walking around the hospital... that I felt was the important part, just start moving when you can it does 2 things, get you checked out in the morning faster, and puts your mindheart at ease on how world just adjusted. If I had to decide again, I would do the band all over, this to me is just a minor setback, and will be taken care of as soon as it can be scheduled. Hope this helps, and having this happen is really rare. I think I am just a little to hyperactive, overactive, and play too hard to notice anything much.

I was banded on March 20, 2008 by Dr. Castro in Dallas, TX at Methodist Health System. I am also an employee of Methodist, so I didn't have to go through the six month supervised weightloss program beore the procedure. As of today, I have lost approximately 15 pounds. I have an appointment on Thursday for my first fill and I am excited because my 40th birthday is May 4th and my theme is "Forty and Fabulous!" I hope to lose an additional 10lbs before my b/day. Dr. Castro is wonderful and also his practice is considered "a center of excellence" by the Medical Association. I love it and would do it again.

You are too funny. I am very glad you did well with it. It does put my mind at ease a little. I am like you. I work through almost any pain. Thank you for letting me know. Speedy recovery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
