how much time to take off from work.

Recommended Posts

I have a desk job and I'm not sure how much time that I will need to take off after surgery. Will I need to take more than one week?

I work a desk job and took a week off and was fine to go back after that. I just took it easy when I did have to get up and move around.

I'm an N-ICU nurse and I only took a few days off, so I think if you sit at a desk all day, a week off should be more than adequate.

Everyone's different. I don't have a strenuous job, but I don't get to sit and I do have to walk around quite a bit. I took two weeks off and even though I feel physically okay right now (Wednesday is my first day back to work), I'm worried about going back because I still get tired pretty easily at this point. But, it's better to be safe than sorry and if you can get the time off from work, then do it.

Perhaps I am insane, but I was banded on a Wed. and went back to work the following Monday. It depends upon the person, but the recovery is not bad at all. Be well.

I was banded on April 8th, went back to work yesterday, unfortunately it was interrupted by this awful nausae, so I only made it for 7 hours. I am confident this is only temporary and I did get an anti nausae script from my Dr. Did anyhone else get nausaeted 5-6 days out? What worked for you?

J.

I am being banded on the 29th, and am planning on going back on that following Monday. I'm hoping that it's not too soon, but I don't have a lot of vacation time to use, but I am only a receptionist so it isn't tooo strenuous of a job.

That is my plan too. I am at my desk most of the day, so I am hoping I'll be able to just sit and relax for the first few days back.

Good luck to you!

I work half the time at a desk and the other part out in the field so I'm planning on taking at least a week off and possibly working 1/2 days the following week. I get up at 4 am and work 4-10 hour days so I know I will be tired.

Instead of using precious vacation time, I'm using some sick time. (My surgery is on Wednesday, April 30 and I plan to return the following Monday.) My company offers ten sick days / year and I rarely use more than a few.

I just told people at the office that I am having a "semi-minor surgical procedure." I'll let them interpret what that means -- it sounds mysterious

I'm also in a good spot since I work from home. I just figured this isn't vacation, it's a legitimate medical thing and qualifies as sick time.

Good luck with your surgery and recovery!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
