Exercise for the diasbled

Recommended Posts

I 'm disabled and need to find exercise that I can do. I can't walk etc. I ride a stationary bike, but would like to do more. Any idea would be great.

Congrats on getting any exercise it at all. Keep it up. How about lifting some light weights....even cans of veggies would work. Stretching routines would be good too.

Hi, Not sure when you say you can't walk if you mean that you can't walk at all or you can't walk for exercise, so bear with me please. If you are able to use your legs some, I would suggest Water exercise-it is a low impact form of exercise and you can use almost every muscle in your body by doing this. If you have a YWCA in your area, check them out-they are usually very reasonable for costs and have several programs that you can choose from. Good luck in your journey.

I can walk but not for exercise.

Thanks for the help. I never think of the YWCA. Thanks again.

Advice given to me since i can't stand for more then 5 min before my legs go numb and my back screams. Was do ANYTHING you can to get your body moving. even if its grab a couple of cans and chair dance in place.

I find I keep forgetting to do it. So im going to try one of InStride Cycle XL | Stamina | Walgreens

Since I can place it on the bottom shelf of my computer table it will be in sight so I will hopefully remember to do it more.

OK my mother lost her lower legs from complications of diabeties. She rides a bike (3 wheel) and walks some but it hurts her to walk too much. she Has these resistance bands to help her with arm muscles. and She does work outs with her legs while she is sitting down to build muscle in her legs...basicaly to keep them strong.

I love the Water idea. And if you join at the Y you can do some strength training too after swimming.

Water exercises, the inversion table - not really an exercise but feels so good, pilates....

these are the only things I have found that don't hurt.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
