Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I will be seven weeks post-op tomorrow and my weight loss has stopped. Not gaining but not losing anymore. 2 weeks ago I had a fill of 3 ccs. in my 10 cc. band. I am still eating very healthy and limiting portion size. I am so frustrsted at this point that I want to say h--- with it and go eat a hot fudge sundae! My son is getting married in June and I want desperately to drop more weight before the wedding. I have severe osteoarthritis in my knees so my exercise is limited. PLEASE if anyone has any suggestions how to get things moving again can you let me know. I am ready to explode. :)

I see these "Help!!!!!!!!!!" posts and think someone must be near death. But no, you have a 2 week stall. :) Sometimes you can't do much to get things going again, weightloss stalls. Typically around weeks 2 - 4, but often much later than that. Stalls go for a week to 4, typically. Think of it as your body readjusting. Our bodies are designed to hold on to fat. They have very strong mechanisms in place for resisting fat loss. Sometimes you can just wait for those to give up a bit.

Outside of that, try the generic "maybe stall breakers" - up your Protein, Water, exercise, switch up the foods you're eating if you're sticking to the same ones, etc.

Yes, but I doubt anything I can say will have much real effect. My experience is largely non-transferable to others, and vice-versa.

You know what to do. You have realistic goals.

This is that period many call "Bandster Hell".

Being frustrated so early in the journey means it's time to calm yourself, settle back and take careful evaluation of what steps you CAN control in this whole process.

Being hungry is no big deal. Being frustrated is something we Morbidly Obese have dealt with much of our lives.

Continue to eat healthily. Continue Water intake. Continue exercise. Continue living each DAY for what it is....another opportunity to take another step toward our OWN goal.

It won't be long before you notice those ankles don't feel like they are on fire all the time. Nor our eyeballs are ready to pop out of the sockets when we bend over and hit someone across the street. Water exercise is very gentle on those with osteoarthritis. Check it out.

And don't give up.

Thanks Jack I needed that. I am way to hard on myself and not appreciating what I have already accomplished. I am upping my water intake today to see if that helps. I will keep plugging away and no I won't eat that hot fudge sundae, ummm fudge...........

Grab some light dumbells, and move your upper body more then! Up your Fluid intake, eliminate some of the sugars and carbs if you eat them.

When I plateau---and everyone does, it is not a matter of IF but of WHEN. I have to get moving to get the scale moving again.

I realize with the arthritis moving is more of an issue, which will lessen some with the weight loss if you are like me, my knees are pain free finally!!!

I will sit in my recliner, and raise my legs out straight, and scissor them back and forth. I used free hand held weights and would just rotate my arms, ANYTHING---just move more!

If you can eat them, salads seem to help me break a stall too. I think it just takes so much for us to digest the raw veggies, it helps me....maybe I just feel full longer on less....I don't really know, but it does help!

Don't give up this soon into it. Son will get married, regardless, and you will be healthier already! Hang in there, it is not unusual, nor anything to get despondent over.....it's normal!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
