Just saw the psychiatrist

Recommended Posts

I just saw the WLS psychiatrist and am now depressed. She said she thinks the surgery is a go, but she has some concerns. I know that I'm ready. She's worried what I'll do when difficulty arrises. I told her, that when that time comes, I'll have to talk to someone to get past it. What else can one do? I know that I'll have hard times, but does that mean I shouldn't have the surgery? I have tried many times to lose weight and I know that this surgery will help me obtain this. I understand that it's not a cure all, but a tool to work with. I don't plan on "falling off the wagon", but I also recognize that some days will be harder than others and I may want to eat. If and when that happens, all I can do is to get back on my feet. Isn't this what other people do? Now I'm afraid, what if this doesn't work either....:)

From what you're saying, she's approving you for the surgery, but you're concerned she won't let you have it?

Tell her you want to work on a program of behavioral change to get new behaviors in place before the surgery, so that you have that many fewer to worry about post-op, and perhaps have some basis for understanding how to change your behaviors after the fact.

Talking to someone and getting past it doesn't often work. An action plan will go much farther.

I see the behaviour therapist May 6th to work on eating behaviours. Hopefully he will have an action outline that I can tailor to my needs. I appreciate your response. I would like to know what other people do when they hit those hard times.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
