Checking on getting banded

Recommended Posts

I live in MS and I am sick of this weight and trying to lose weight. Is the lapband the same as the ring about 12 years age. If anyone knows let me know. I know someone that had the ring and she sure is big now. Thanks

I would think that lapband would be the best. Has anyone had problems with sagging skin. If slow weight loss I would hope that no one would have that problem. I have a friend that had by pass and she had to have to have an op for the skin hanging thanks jo

The AGB (adjustable gastric banding, which includes lap-band) is not the same as what I've heard called "the ring", which is not adjustable. I just posted about this to another thread, I'm sure it's there if you poke around.

Everyone who's like over 12, noteably fat, fat for longer than say a year, doesn't have pristine genetics, etc. is going to have problems with sagging skin. The speed of the weightloss has a lot less to do with it than people think. Do you have stretchmarks? If you have stretchmarks, you're probably going to have sagging skin.

I don't think the Lapband is the same either. I remember seeing what looked like a zip tie years ago but this lapband that I have is totally different! Good luck!

I am just speaking for myself, but my Digestive Disease doctor stated to me that he would not support my decision to have the gastric bypass. He highly recommended the lapband since it is the least invasive and if you have complications it can be reversed. I have only had my band for 2 months, I am walking every day and I still have loose skin, just not as bad as a friend I have that had the bypass surgery, also needs to have plastic surgery. And as Wheetsin says..genetics have a lot to do with that as well..I have stretch marks from having my children and a c-section to boot..so anyone that has had one of those know what I'm talking about! I really think after 2 years of checking into this surgery that the lapband is the way to go! Good luck!:)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
