Hi, I've been reading your board, and what is an NSV?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm Linda. I don't have a band yet but am pursuing it. I've been reading a lot on your board and it makes me feel even more confident that the band is the right choice for me.

I hope you don't mind me asking stupid questions every now and then. My first one is what is an NSV?

I hope to be hanging around here regularly, if you'll have me. I've been looking for a good WLS message board for some time now (I just can't get into the format at Obesity Help and I like and am familiar with vBulletin which is what this board is built on).

By way of intro, I am 43, married, with 5 children. My brood is made of all girls and they range in age from 3 to 24.

Nice to meet all of you.

NSV means non scale victory.

The scale may not go down, however your clothes fit better or some measure themselves and see how many inches they have lost.

Good luck with your band!!!:smile2:

NSV: Non-scale victory -- a weight-loss achievement that has little to do with numbers

From the home page click on freq. asked questions. From that page they have abbreviations.

Good luck

Non scale victories can be anything positive that is not associated with the scale. For example:

Walking up a flight of stairs without being winded

Not having to strain to shave your legs

buy clothes off the regular rack instead of plus size

have a member of the opposite sex flirt with you

reduction in medication or eliminating them altogether

You get the idea. All the GOOD stuff. *wink*

Non scale victory is when your clothes fit better, you feel better and the scale hasn't really moved.

I'm Delia...banded 2/2/06...lost 55 lbs not much when you think of it, but I've gone from a 20/22 to a 12...feeling great, looking better, and taking things slow...I love my band, would do it again in a heartbeat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
