How long were you off work?

Recommended Posts

Physically I feel alright, but I'm afraid of being really tired. I'm still taking a nap every day and last night I slept like 11 hours and I'm still tired... Like everyone has said, it's different for each person I think.

I agree, I would be sleeping alot more to recover if I didnt have my son not sleeping through the night and waking up at the crack of dawn. Its nearing the end of my work day and Im exhausted but feel pretty good.

My surgery is scheduled for Wednesday April 16th and i'm hoping to return to work on the following Monday. Is that reasonable or should I expect to be out of work a bit longer than that?

Thanks

I had my surgery on a Friday and went back to work on Monday. If you have a sendentary job I don't think you will have any problems but if you are up and moving around a lot you may consider taking an extra day or two.:)

I noticed several of you had pain in your arms or shoulders. I too had a pain in my shoulder and the nurse told me that it was caused from the anesthesia..I could have sworn the 90 lb nurse that was in surgery with me dropped me on my shoulder after surgery when they moved me back on the bed. :huh2: It hurt pretty bad..but it went away after a few days!:biggrin2:

I had heard that many people can go right to work, and others take a while. I was banded 3/17. I was planning on taking the rest of the week off, and work parttime the next week.

I went to work that next Monday and threw up in the car. Guess I wasn't ready. So I ended of taking that second week off.

I didn't take any time off work. My usual working week includes me having 2 days off in the middle of the week and working weekends. Anywho, I had the op Tuesday night, out of hospital Wednesday morning and back to work Thursday morning.

That was 3 weeks ago and I just had my first fill tonight with my post-op exam. The Dr asked how I went and I told him I was back to work the next day - he said 'I knew you would.'

I had my surgery done on a Friday and went back to work at noon on Monday. I was miserable on Saturday but then woke up Sunday and couldn't even believe myself good I felt. I would have loved to have been able to take some extra days off but I honestly felt well enough to go back to work. Good luck to you and I pray your lapband experience will be as wonderful as mine has been!

I was banded on a Friday and back in the office the following Tuesday. Pain was not an issue but it was a little difficult. I found that I was tired and grumpy. I could have taken naps at the desk I was so tired. I am a business analyst so my job is complicated intellectually but not demanding physically.

By the next week I felt normal again. By the way, I was really low on Protein with the Clear liquids the first couple of days and I had no energy. I picked up some Isopure ready mixed Protein drinks and I was feeling a lot better afterwards. However, I can not be sure that the Isopure helped or if it was just the additional day or two of healing that made the difference.

Now that I have been banded (april 16th) I feel i could also return to work Monday. However, I am not having my staples removed until Wednesday so I may just take that week off for some extra R n R. Besides with where some of these staples are located there is no way I could comfortably where a bra. Are anyone else's that high?

I had a bra problem too. The top incision was right were the bottom of my bra rested in the middle. It was one of the smaller incisions but the most painful because of the bra until I gave up and bought a new sports bra. Then it was fine.

I paid maybe $5 for the bra and it was well worth it. A cheap one with a little less support feels better after surgery than the ones I use to actually work out in. Fast pain relief with a little extra jiggle was fine by me. I needed something and I never feel comfortable without any bra.

I would definitely suggest wearing a sports bra and maybe a shirt that hides some of the lack of definition you find with a sports bra.

Yep..I was the same way! Never told my doc I went back to work until he asked and when I told him and he just laughed and told me how hard headed I was! You see he wanted me to stay overnight at the hospital after surgery and I talked him out of that too! Way to go Soriminah!!:crying:

My doctor actually ended up extended my absence from work because I was still so tired. I ended up finding out the week after my surgery that I was having knee problems and have had to have x-rays for that, so the extension works out well for me. Today was the first day I didn't take a nap and I have been exhausted. I guess I'm just slow to feel better.

Well, I thought I was so smart and scheduled surgery on a Friday and didn't have to return to work until Wednesday the following week... Well, a good ol' blizzard hit and cancelled all flights (I'm up in South Dakota) and luckily I was still able to have my surgery late morning on Monday. Well, I ended up going back to work @ 6am Wed--that week was a little long, but I got along alright... and I didn't even have to take any pain meds, so I was happy. Now if I can just get rid of the remainder of this bloating, I'll be OH-SO-HAPPY!!

I took a week off and I was ok going back to work after that. I probably coulda gone back earlier, but working on an ambulance and all didnt want to push the issue with all the lifting etc.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
