TxChelsey 1 Posted April 13, 2008 Is burping bad for the band? I don't mean pb's, just a plain old belch. I am 6 days post-op, and still a little gassy. I have burped a lot over the last week, and I was wondering if this moves or irritates anything?? Lovely
ponytail 0 Posted April 13, 2008 I'm burping a little, but I enjoy it :-) Seriously, it's not bad at all. I's nothing you can't squelch and it's really nothing if you try not to swallow air when you eat or drink. The farting is worse. Ohhh, yes. The farting is much worse. hope2bhealthy 2 Posted April 13, 2008 chelsey - be happy that you CAN burp. i think i've only burped 3 times in the last 2 weeks, even when the gas was HORRIBLE. burping won't hurt your band. belch away!
kaninag 35 Posted April 13, 2008 yeah for me burping is no biggy....but yeah I def have a LOT more gas post-banding...but hey I'll deal with it!!
Cheryl Ann 2 Posted April 14, 2008 How I wish I could burp! Actually, even more than that, a nice, long (pardon me) fart would be that much better. Yup, I admit it. I'd take a fart over a burp any day, these days.
Boo Boo Kitty 3 Posted April 14, 2008 In my case, I burp alot if I over eat. I asked my Dr if it would cause problems he said "None other than loosing friends". :smile2:
jennibee 3 Posted April 14, 2008 Burping has become commonplace with me. So much so that the people closest to me aren't even annoyed with it anymore. I try very hard to be discreet about it and always excuse myself. If burping is the worst thing I have to deal with then I'll take it. My daughter (who is eleven) just giggles and gives me a score on a scale of 1-10...lol
lafsalot 0 Posted April 14, 2008 Be very glad that you can burp. I couldn't and ended up in the hospital with a distended stomach. The air was trapped and could not get out. The doc had to put an NG tube through my nose and down in to my stomach. It was very unpleasant to say the least. They've put me on medication, and things are much better. ~~ Belch away! dekebell 0 Posted May 8, 2008 I'm having pretty bad gas pains. I've "thrown-up" air three times now. Virtually no liquids, but a ton of air! Each time- right before I "threw-up", the normal "pre-vomit" symptoms started; mouth watering, stomach turning- the whole thing. But when I actually vomitted, it was like I was throwing up air. Then the relief overwhelms me, it's like the best thing since sliced bread! The pain seems to build back up within a few hours, but I can't seem to make myself burp or belch. It's been less than two hours since my last "vomit-belch", and the pain is already haunting me again. I also had my gall-bladder removed when they installed the band. The pain and sore feeling in my gut is almost unbearable. I'm a 33 year old man, who's worked outside all my life doing hard work, I was in a motorcycle wreck seven years ago that almost cost me my life (8 broken bones, etc.), but I think this "gas pain" in my gut is the most intense pain I can remember! Please advise. Deke Banded and removed gall-bladder 05/02/08 Doctor Robert Davis Houston, Texas
dbowers 0 Posted May 8, 2008 I wonder if this belching will eventually go away or is this a side-affect thing? I'm 8 days post op. The gassy chest and back pain is waning, but I still have mini-belches every time I eat or drink.
lafsalot 0 Posted May 8, 2008 Deke you may be an "air-swallower" like I am. If you are a smoker, it makes it even worse. Call your doctor and ask for "metoclopramide" and it will help get things moving. You must close your mouth to breathe and don't swallow air to try and help yourself burp. I was in the same position you are in and thought I was going to die - that's when the NG tube came in. I feel your pain my friend and hope that you feel better soon. Good news - after my hospital visit and the medication, I'm doing fine. I've even had a fill without any more complications. I'm only taking the medication once a day and all is well. I do however feel the need to belch frequently... only now, I can.
