C-section vs lapband

Recommended Posts

OMG! The C section was way way harder to recover from. My band surgery was almost a non event I was back at work in 5 days. The only pain I had was from the gas bubbles nothing else. They gave me liquid pain killers and that took care of the gas pains. The C section was so hard to sit up and lay down, not to mention now you have a little one getting you out of bed every 2 hours. Holy cow, not even close to in being in the same ball park as a C section. I would say the hardest part of the band surgery was burping. You can't burp for about a week, that hurt because it felt like an elephant was sitting on your chest, those are the gas pains. . .I never knew a burp could feel so goooooddddd when it finally happened.

C-section was harder except that the distraction of the baby made it easier to handle. Hard to pay attention to self as new mother when baby needs to be taken care of. Band was MUCH easier but no such distraction. Def babied myself more w/the band.

Are you freakin kidding me? Although I thought the same thing before surgery. What can I compare this to?

C-Section wins worst surgery - there is no comparison for me. Although mine was a horror story! literally. Had two c-sections...lovely drainage sack with both (yuck!). The best thing - the morphine drip with the little button thing...lol The only time I've ever been high in my life.

Don't sweat it! Lap-band was much easier to recover from. I'd describe being sore more than any pain.

I had a c-section with my twins in 2004. I am due to be banded next Thursday, so I'll get my answer then :o I had an easier time with my c-section than I did with my IVF egg retrieval.

I haven't had the band yet, but I had a c-section many years ago and I was much smaller at that time, but it was a piece of cake. I was up walking around within a couple hours.

I can only hope the lap-band surgery is as easy.

I havent had the band done yet, but I have had a c-section and I had my gall bladder removed and I am assuming, from what I have read that Lap band surgery will be much easier than a c-section.

Hi there, I haven't had a c-section but I have had 10 other operation including hip surgery. You've no idea how reassuring this site is. I'm assuming compared to hip surgery and breast surgery (which I've also had) that the banding should be far less painful....and you guys have pretty much confirmed that. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou!!! I get banded 08/15/08! Can't wait to start my new life. Currently on my pre op diet.....yuck!!!! Kez

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
