Passover is comming! Help!!

Recommended Posts

Anyone else out there who celebrates Passover? I am pretty nurvous since I usually begin my day with a Protein Shake (not Kosher for passover) and cannot usually manage solids first thing in the a.m.

I went for nutritional counselling at my clinic but they really don't get it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have an additional challenge since I am lactose intollerant and don't really do much dairy during passover anyways. I mostly stick to meat and parve.

There was some Passover discussion a few weeks ago. I'm planning on making chopped liver and chopped herring. And I'll eat the gefilte fish and matzah ball Soup.

Can you eat yogurt? I know some people can, who don't tolerate milk.

I'm not too worried.

If it's that important, would you survive not having b'fast that day?

Passover is 8 days, not 1, so we have a lot of planning to do.

I also make Passover Granola, which can make a nice Breakfast. Not as much Protein as the shake. Maybe add a little cheese?

I know everyone makes their own Passover decisions. I see my Protein shakes as a doctors order, like medicine. I might have it on Passover.

Are matzoh balls ok to eat? I am entering solid food stage tomorrow and would love to have matzoh balls. But, I would think they would expand in your stomach like Pasta or other bread products and maybe get stuck.

This will be my second banded pesach. It is not that hard, but I do not eat matzoh and miss it. A lot of hard boiled eggs, and hummus and lox and fish. Gefitle fish is a good choice. I do a shake for Breakfast usually in the car so who cares if it is not kosher. The EAS carb solutions work for me. Also, potted chicken legs are okay if I eat them with applesauce. A zeisen pesach.

My dietition said matzah was okay...

I'm really not sure. I really don't understand why we can't eat Pasta and rice because of them swelling. Didn't they finish swelling when they were cooked.

Truthfully, I did eat them soon after the surgery - twice. Friends brought me the Soup. The first time it was fluffy, and I just ate it. The second time it was really hard, and I blended up the whole quart of soup. chicken, veggies, soup and matzah ball. It was wonderful.

I didn't have a problem...

Matzoh balls work well for me. Just make sure they are soft. UMMM!

Be well.

What does "zeisen" mean? I love to pick up some Yiddish!

Your second banded Passover - a real pro. I just got banded in March! I appreciate your wisdom. How much have you lost?

Why don't you eat matzoh? Is it a wheat thing?

I'm also going to make chopped herring. I have a salt limitation, and the only thing good about the band is that my portions are so small, I can early salty foods that I couldn't before!

Am I glad I found this topic. I thought I was okay for Pesach, since what I've been eating isn't really affected by the chametz ban. I can stay with my Breakfast of an egg beater omelette and do tuna or spinach pie for lunch. Lucky for me, I work for an Orthodox firm, so I'm off all week and away from away temptations.

But, I created a dilemma for myself without thinking about it. I have a scheduled fill next week, meaning I have to drink liquids for a day. Are there an Kosher for Passover Protein shakes around?

Not sure if this was meant as a dietary question or related to Passover restrictions, but Pasta is a no-no on Passover, since it is made from wheat. Rice is allowed by Sephardi Jews (those Jews who came from Spain), but not Ashkenazi Jews.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
