wow Kathy: I'm really happy for you. I was banded yesterday. everything went well except that my surgeon found a very large hiatel hernia while he was in there, so he went ahead and repaired it and showed me the pics that he took. I had to spend the night in the hospital but otherwise I really don't have much pain. I liken the pain to the pain you get when you do alot of sit-ups. more of a soreness. anyway I'm glad it's over. I am on to a skinnier me. Kathy, let us know when you get a surgery date.

Kathy: I just wanted you to know that I'm doing very well today. I never got gas pains and I haven't even needed to take any pain meds for the sore muscle pain I am experiencing. I do need help every once in a while to get out of bed, or the tub but otherwise these simple actions are getting easier. The incisions are very small. I also wanted to let you know that I dreaded the Heparin injections that they give you to prevent blood clots (they inject you in the abdomen) but all three were painless because they are given subcutaneous not intramuscular. I'm already eating cream of wheat, pudding and cream Soups, so i don't feel hungry at all. I hope everything goes this easy for you too.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
