Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

This is my first post and I'm so happy to have found this site. I'm just starting the process and have my 1st appointment with Dr. Geiss on Tuesday (4/15). I've learned so much by visiting here and I'm looking forward to my journey and meeting new friends here along the way.

Hi Everyone: This is my first post too. I did quite a bit of research on this site, and have learned alot. I have just been approved from Tricare Prime. I have my 2nd visit with the surgeon next week, from there we will set the surgery date. I figured since I know now that I will be banded I might as well join in.

Hi Lisa,

I just had my appointment with Dr. Geiss about 2 weeks ago. What did you think? I am excited. Do you have any of your testing done yet? I still have to go to the pulmonary doc and my endocrin doc. Are you going to go to the meeting next week? Maybe i'll see you there.

Sue

Hi Sue,

Thanks for the reply. I was very pleased with my first visit with Dr. Geiss and his staff. They are all very helpful, friendly, and patient with any questions I have. Before my first visit, I already had my appointments lined up (a co-worker used Dr. Geiss and she gave me the paperwork on the required tests). Just yesterday I went to the pulmonary Dr. and tomorrow (5/1) I go to the cardiologist. You mentioned going to the meeting....isn't it next Tuesday (5/8)? I went to the one in April and it was so inspiring. I had tears in my eyes because for the first time, I knew that this will really help me to finally lose the weight. I'm very excited and positive about this journey and I feel very fortunate to have found Dr. Geiss and his staff. I also look forward to meeting new people in the same boat, such as yourself, and sharing our experiences. I look forward to hearing back from you.

Lisa

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
