call your medicaid office and get a list of covered procedures. i believe medicaid does approve wls. if you have applied for TANF or just plain FMC, call medicaid to see what your benefit will cover, typically it is what medicare covers and medicare covers wls. also, have you looked into SSI, or RSDI? You may have a condition that warrants a disability which may help with a small monthly monetary benefit. if you have recently applied for medicaid, get your pending slip and go and see a doctor and discuss a PLAN with him. If you just had heart surgery, my guess is a doctor wants to follow your progress and ensure your healthy. Then take a realistic approach to WLS. You are worth more than Ebay! Take one step at a time and you will be on your way. Yes you do need/want to lose weight, your heart needs to be healthy, and you need to exercise. With heart surgery, processes happen in a methodical manner. You need to discuss ALL of this with a doctor, it is not going to be a quick fix, but one you can live healthy with the right direction. g2s

i havent found work yet,i have had a few interviews but no luck, when employers see a short fat man that has had open heart surgery they r scared to hire me,even though i have never had a heart attack,my heart is strong and i dont have any clogged arteries
HOW the HECK do your interviewers know you had open heart surgery? You realize that's not something you have to tell them in an interview, yes? And I'm assuming your shirt/tie/jacket covers scarring. So how is it that open heart surgery is even coming up in an interview, and how are the "see"ing it?????

i drive a truck for a living and the dot requires a person to list all jobs, when interviewing they ask why i left my last job,i tell them what happened to me,i was suppose to start a new job driving locally, but the day before i was to start i tell them i went to the emergency room and was put in the hospital to have emergency heart valve replacement

Have you thought of changing careers, even just temporarily? A job is better than no job. Go to a Target or Wal-Mart or something, retail, etc. Benefits + pay, even if the benefits aren't great, it will give you more to save toward your surgery than no job will. Does that make sense?

BTW, unless you're for some reason required to disclose detailed information, which I can't imagine but I've never worked for DOT so maybe, try holding back a little information. Maybe tell them "I had a medical emergency, and once I had recovered the position had already been filled" or "I ended up having to be admitted to the hospital the night before the job was to start, so I missed the first day." Something like that, maybe.

I've driven over the road (long haul) and local for 14 years. We had guys who had heart attacks, emphysema, cancer surgeries, quadruple bypasses who weren't prevent from driving a truck, as long as they could pass the DOT physical. Basically, if you can fog a mirror, you can drive a truck.

Man, I know how you feel. I had a chance at a pretty darn good job (and a hard one to get) driving for Walmart. Excellent money, working conditions with some really nice perks and I ended up turning it down after they called me twice, because I just couldn't stand the thought of sleeping in a truck for 2 or 3 nights a week.

Good luck to ya.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
