Are you guys planning rewards for meeting certain goals? I always rewarded myself with food in the past so I'm trying to think of non-food rewards.

So far mine are:

Lose 50 lbs/under 300--new haircut and highlights

Lose 100 lbs--get my nose repierced

Goal--my husband has to buy me a 3 stone diamond ring

I'm trying to think of something for 75, 125 and 150 lbs.

Those rewards sound good! Here are a few ideas...

A day at the spa (nails, facial, massage?, whatever you enjoy)

A new dress or outfit that you might not normally spend the money on

New make-up

Go for a special outing (museum, movie, etc)

Thats all I have for now. I would love to hear other ideas you come up with and I will let you know if I think of anymore. Good luck!!!

I thought about a massage, but I get kind of freaked out at the thought of a stranger touching me. I'm so weird. LOL

I totally know what you mean about massages. I have never had one because I too don't know how I feel about someone touching me. My friend said to try just a shoulder one to start.

Nah, I jsut dont really find the idea of some arbitrary reward motivating. I just want to do it for the achievement. Plus I'm known to ah, indulge myself regularly anyway, lol. I'd set a reward, then think stuff it I'll go buy it anyway.

So no reward scheme for me. The goal itself is my motivation - although I did set a lot of non weight goals - like running a 10K.

One of my rewards is a new Coach bag. I am hoping I can get there before vacation this year

Hi:

If you don't already have one, reward yourself with a great MP3 player and download some great exercising music. It's a nice thing to have and it will help with your exercise.

Another idea, check out TRIKKE 3-point Carving Vehicles. I got one last Wednesday and I'm loving it. One of the other bandsters recommended it.

Congratulations. I think the rewards help to get to the goal.

Take care.

Sue

I really like the idea of rewarding myself with an MP3 player! I'm glad you suggested that! I think today I'll make myself a little list of rewards for every twenty pounds lost. Hmmmm, that means I'm already due one reward! Just the excuse I needed to get a manicure and pedicure! =)

These threads always make me feel selfish and guilty. I pretty much just indulge myself whenever I feel like it.

I just assumed my reward for hitting goal would be plastic surgery, and that's really all the goal I need. I've wanted these boobs put back for YEARS.

Great thread! It's nice to hear everyone's views from all sides of the spectrum.

You know, I do have a bunch of little mini-goals which my Surgeon and Dietician suggested would help keep that HUGE goal from seeming so great. As it will be great, I mean - from my total weight loss it will be approximately 190 to 200 lbs!

Anyway, I never really gave it any thought to give myself any rewards. I will just be happy enough to reach all my mini-goals - but the idea of rewarding myself with something nice would be even better.

If it were something I really like, it would most likely be a new designer outfit, but let's face it. It would not be a good idea because I would most likely not fit it very long.

Maybe I can think of something more feasible as I am less than ten pounds away from my first mini-goal.

I honestly hadn't thought about rewarding myself and I think it's just what I need to keep myself motivated. In fact, that's probably why I'm missing foods so much now. In the past, unconsiously, I'd use food to Celebrate and reward myself. Now, I get the fun of coming up with my reward list and I already deserve one for 50#s. Woo hoo! hair color, here I come.

Keep the ideas coming. I love the look of that Trikke thing. Think the heart rate monitor I was really wanting just might end up on my list.

I didn't really think about rewards until a friend mentioned that she rewards herself for weight loss goals. The truth is, I haven't felt worthy of even the simplest things in a long time because of how I look and feel. Plus, in the past when I've rewarded myself for things, it has always been a food reward and I want to get past that.

Jaime, I totally understand. I'm 38 years old and I've only had my nails done twice in my life. I still wear my hair in the same ponytail I wore in grade school. I never wear make-up. I'm pretty darn gross to look at, actually. I've just always had the attitude of, "What's the point? You're so repulsively fat, why dress it up? You aren't going to look good anyway?" So, while I still actually feel that way about myself, I've decided to take some steps in the right direction over spring break by coloring my hair, whitening my teeth, and getting a mani-pedi. Who knows, I may even take my shaggy hair down out of this ponytail and put on some makeup! I know my female students would be thrilled.

Well, bought myself a new pair of pants on clearance. Not sure if they fit yet but they will soon. And I bought a highlight kit for my hair. Woo hoo! Rewards rock! Thank you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
