I have worked w/ Anthem and haven't had any problems. Your doctors office should be able to assist you or you should be able to go their web site and pull up the medical policy for them. You just need to make sure that the company who is caring the coverages has added the rider onto the policy. :-)

I am on his insurance. Is that what you mean?

When I told my doctor that I was thinking of getting this lapband she ran a bunch of blood test on me to see if I had anything wrong so we could say it was medically nessesary, but all my test came back good. So I dont know if the insurance will cover it. What do you think. I am 5'4" and weigh 280 pounds. My mother had gastric bypass. But I dont wanna do that. She was like 350# or something. And lots of my family are overwieght, so I guess it runs in the family.

I was banded with Anthem Blue Cross and your weight and height along with family history should help you qualify. Start making a list of all the diets that you've tried and failed on. Try to get a letter from your Primary Care Doctor about your weight loss attempts. That's all I needed along with the evaluations and nutrionist that my Doctor sent me to oh yeah and the weight loss seminar. Check on line to read about your coverages or call customer service the number should be listed on your insurance card. You should be fine. Good Luck!

Ok. I will talk to my doctor about that. I did go on a diet before and got down to like 215, then I hit a platue and I couldnt loose anymore, then I gained it all back PLUS some more, in a few months. My heaviest was 260. Now its 280 now. I did the nutrasystem diet and I had a gym membership and I worked out 4 times a week. But I dont have the money for that stuff anymore. And my motivation was bigger because I was getting married. Do you think that would set me back for the insurance? Or should I leave that part out?

Blue Cross covered portion of everything except lapband itself.

I also claimed everything on my income tax and rec'd. a portion back. Oops, I just realized, I am in Canada

My best friend has Antham BCBS and she was approved last week the next day after the surgeon faxed her paperwork to Antham. All they required was a letter of medical necessaity from the surgeon. Good luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
