I would never tell anyone it is ok not to follow their surgeon's directions.

I had a long talk with my surgeon and since I wanted to survive the surgery in the best possible shape, I followed his directions. It was only for six weeks and I survived just fine.

If you feel you can't survive without your stomach being full, then perhaps you should consider counseling for a while prior to getting a band.

It's your health and your responsibility.

I want to thank everyone for all the great advice/opinions. Tommorrow is my big day. I forgot to mention that I work a 2nd job at the local Dairy Queen. I never touched a drop of food or ice cream. I knew I could do it!!!! yaaa hooooo. I really cracked down the past five days and have lost almost 10 lbs. I'm now 237lbs @ 5'3. Everyone keeps asking if I'm nervous, but I'm actually so excited to NOT BE HUNGRY after starving the past 2 weeks!!!!

All went well. Although I have had many days doubting I'll lose weight. I lost the first 3 weeks, that was 3 weeks ago. I'm stuck at 223 for the past month. And I was very niave thinking I wouldn't be hungry. I think I am more hungry than I was before. I've only had 1 fill of 2cc's so I have little to no restriction. I've realized how slow of a process this actually is. But I'm sticking it out and looking forward to being under 200. That is my goal for the summer.

Stick with it. You can do it. You still sound real postive. I can't have it done until November. I have to go through a 5 month diet first. I saw a lady the other day that had it done the last of the year and she was so happy with how she was losing. Please keep me posted on how you are doing. i'm counting the days for me.

My doctor says he doesn't put people on a preop diet. He wants you to start eating healthier if you haven't been doing so in the past and if you are over 50 BMI he wants you to get to 50 or lower. Right now I'm teetering at 51 so I don't have to lose a whole lot to get to 50. I think my body knows I'm trying to lose that 10 lbs and it's not cooperating. :cursing: I've been trying to change my eating habits gradually for a while now so even if he did put me on one I think I would do fine. Actually I wish he would so atleast I would have something to go on.

Do you knowyour surgery date yet? That's great that you don't have to be on a diet.

No not yet. I have another psych eval and then I can meet with my surgeon. After all the pre op tests are done then I can meet with him again to get my surgery date. From what I've been told I should be looking at a date in mid to late July. I can't wait until I finally get that date. I can't believe I'm excited about an impending surgery. Go figure.

My concern about cheating on the pre-op diet is this:

If you are already cheating, how will you be after you are banded? I am not SAYING you will cheat then. I am just asking you to take a long look inside yourself. We will all have our struggles, me included.

I have been asking myself the same thing just to make sure. I have been confronting "favorite" foods and really looking at how I will face them later.

For me, it has become a choice to live or die. My BMI is "only" 40. I carry my weight well and most would never guess my weight to be as high as it is. I can wear "thinner girl" clothes even today. BUT, I have trouble breathing when I sleep, my joints hurt, my blood pressure is slowly rising. All these things are because of eating the wrong way.

I have chosen to learn to live a different way. To me it is truly a different journey on a different path. I will follow the rules because I want to be healthy. I want to live a long long life.

Just stop and take a good look inside and ask yourself why you are being banded and that will help you to not cheat. Trust what is moving you toward this surgery and it will become easier as you go.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
