Thinking about lap band

Recommended Posts

this is a great place to learn and the chat rooms are bettet. there is a wealth of information to be found in both venue's.

I will suggest staying away from the complications board, remember the the bandsters that don't have problems usually are not posting on the boards.

Get the info first them read the complications otherwise your brain will start playing tricks on you! Good luck in your journey

I'm starting the process too. I just freaked out when I started reading about it on the internet. Then I happend on this site. I've read all the good.. the bad and the questions. It really made a difference for me in making up my mind. I'm still scared.. but so are all the others on here that are starting.. and you'll find out it's OK to be scared. It is a totally cool place to be to learn all you want to know.

Hi Everybody,

I had my lap band surgery yesterday and I am doing great! I'm a little sore but that's to be expected. I was so excited today because I ate a little cottage cheese and was full and didn't want/need to eat anymore. And I have NOT been hungry! That is the most amazing feeling, not to be hungry. I hope everybody is doing well and thanks for the support and encouragement.

Love and Light,

Jan

Hi Kathy,

I was outpatient. I went in at 7:00AM and was home about 4:00PM. And a lot of the wait was for X-ray- they were so busy I had to wait but that was what took so much time.

I feel great! Again, today, I ate some cottage cheese and was not hungry. I just drank a slim-fast and feel so satisfied. I am almost in tears thinking that this is REALLY, REALLY going to work. But then I am only two days in but I feel very hopeful and encouraged.

Thanks for the encouragement Kathy. I appreciate it.

Love and Light,

Jan

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
