I love this show. I think it's the best show on television, actually. But last night's episode really pissed me off.

Dr. Kelso talks a girl out of having gastric bypass, saying that she only wants to take the "easy way out" instead of "working at it".

*spit*

I know we're not bypass patients, but does anyone here feel like they've taken the easy way out?

Absolutely not! It's not easy going though surgery, giving up a lot of the things you loved to eat/drink and exercising all the time.

I love my band, it is the best thing I ever did for myself, but it is not the easy way out.

I saw the show lastnight, and I agree with you Jonathan. But don't forget, guttony is one of THE big seven. Since we are all fat, we are all gulttons, and are undeserving of any compassion. If we just had a little more will power... if we were just a little more righteous.. It took forever to convince my DH that he was NOT taking the easy way out if he got the band. Of course, when you weigh 600 pounds, nothing is easy...

But I dont think this show is going to have much inpact because of all the negative feelings toward fat folk in general.

Spit, spit, and more spit. Last night on HOUSE, Dr. House also insulted an obsese woman. She was comfortable wearing a bikini, and he made wise cracks. Pig.

I'm with you Lisa that show really pissed me off. Especially the Doc who was talking about the little Girl. Too Bad that people actually feel that way.

Spit Spit and More Spit!!

I got mad too!~!!! I thought people would think that about me!!! Oh well, we can't stop the stereotypes and hopefully people that it won't take a show that has a toilet on the roof of their hospital very seriosuly. That girl was al least 300 pounds and will never lose weight and keep it off with out some kind of drastic move!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
