Hi, I finally bit the bullet and saw a bariactric surgeon 3 weeks ago. I just found out yesterday that my insurance will cover the surgery (YEAH!), so now I have to call the doctor and schedule it. I'm hoping to have it in mid May as that should be a quieter time at work for me. My doctor recommends a full week off, which will make it a challenge for me at work! I am 53 years old and cannot wait to lose this extra poundage that I have been carrying around for about 15 years now. It is encouraging to read the posts of all of you who have had the surgery and are losing weight steadily.

BTW: I first got the idea about the lap band because a co-worker of mine had the surgery 1 1/2 years ago and she has dropped from a size 22 or 24 to a 10/12!

Thanks! I've already scheduled my surgery for May 5. It will be here before I know it. I am excited/nervous, but that is to be expected.

Welcome! It is understandable that you are in state of mixed emotions; I believe everyone on this journey has experienced this. This forum is great to hear opinions, and have a laugh, or rant.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
