No catheter, although I think I had one during the surgery but it was gone before I woke up. Ice chips as soon as I left the recovery room and was taken to my room. Clear liquids soon after.

No cath for me. Ice chips as soon as I asked for them in recovery. Water and apple juice when I was taken to step down recovery. I was at a surgical center, outpatient so I had surgery at 9 am and was headed home by 12 (by my choice)

I had to do a barium swallow first to make sure everything was going through the band and then I was allowed to drink. There was no cath for me at all

I didn't have a cath. I was given Water as soon as I was awake basically. About four hours later I was brought Jello, beef broth, and apple juice. I couldn't eat any of it though.
Same here except I also got a popsicle and some puddng.....I only sipped a little broth and water....went home shortly after I went to the bathroom...I was home by the time the girls got home from school.

In recovery my mouth was so dry I could hardly talk. First they leg me have a mouth swab with a little Water, then ice chips and by the time I got to my room they let me have sips of water. That evening at supper, I had broth and watered down apple juice.< /p>

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
