odd clothing size/weight loss question for the chickies

Recommended Posts

Ok, as most of you know I just got a new job and am starting may 11th, one month after surgery.

my question is this..

I weigh 384 lbs right now, and wear a size 34 (OMG i said that in public!!)

With my new 800 calorie diet till April 11th (surgery date) and being hopeful (most ppl my size tend to loose more the first month than average) I'm worried about cloths.

I have to wear scrubs at my new job so my question is.. about how much weight brings you down a size? I know nothing is FOR sure and everyone is different.. but what was your experience?

example.. when will I drop a size after 10 lbs? 20? 30?

hehe thanks in advance

I did Jenny Craig a while back, and they said that for every 20lbs you lose, you'll drop one dress size. If I calculate that out in my head from my own experiences, it seems about accurate, although I suppose it depends on what part of your body you lose weight from the most.

well, I've lost 20 pouns so far, and haven't dropped a size. Probably in another 10 pounds I'll have lost a size.

No rhyme or reason to it for me, at all. I've lost another two sizes since last fall but have lost only 10 more pounds. In the early days it seemed that I didn't stay in a size more than a month or two--thank goodness I didn't buy much!

I'm still pretty early into my banding however I also wear scrubs for my job. I've stuck with drawstring bottoms so that they shrink with me. As far as the tops go, I have purchased the ones with the tie in the back that also allows them to shrink with me. Congrats on the new job!!! Happy Shopping!

I also wear scrubs. I've lost 23lbs and have gone from an XXL to an XL in the top and bottom. I bu all elastic waist, and plain v-neck tops because the tops can be taken in easily with one seam in the back. The pants with the elastic should fit for a long time because they stretch. PLUS they don't rub on my port.

My jeans have gone from a 22tall to an 18tall.

Hope this gives you a little idea/help :)

I doubt there's a formula that works for everyone. For one thing, 20 lbs. lost on us taller women looks a lot less impressive than 20 lbs. on a shortie. (No offense to the vertically challenged.) And you can stay exactly the same weight but convert fat pounds into muscle that takes up much less space. Not to mention that a lot of us lose mostly Water weight in the first weeks after banding, and that Water might come off our hands, feet, and faces before anywhere else.

The good thing about scrubs is you can just keep tightening the drawstring until things get really dire!

I dropped a size quickly at first--about the first 20 pounds, like the others.

I have since lost 52-ish total and am down two sizes...

One thing I have found is that parts of me are shrinking and others are not budging, just kind of hanging there, if you know what I mean. So my problem is that my waist is smaller, but my belly is still there!

that's a weird question. I've lost about 98 pounds and used to wear a 28. I have lost the majority of the weight on the top portion and am wearing about a 16/18 but on the bottom I wear 22/24. I guess it all depends on the person and where it is lost.

I too wear scrubs for my job . I have lost 36 lbs so far and am still wearing the same clothes I am inbetween sizes. The current ones are very big but he size smalle is tight around my belly(the problem area) I have scrubs with tie back backs so they are fine and I went down a size in the tops. THe drawstring pants are good you can adjust them and the elastic waist ones can olt go so far in. Don't buy too many of anything right now. wear them big the tops cover the most baggy spots

I lost 40 pounds and I am all my same clothes.

I even bought a size smaller to see or wait till I fit and they dont fit right, so 40 pounds on me doesnt make much of a difference.

I wear 6X for a guareenteed big comfy fit.

A 5X fits but isnt as roomy.. I may have to pull the waist down or the short sleeves or the buttons will pooch.

A 4X is a MAYBE... worth a try if 4X is the largest size in that item.. usuallt though it dont fit right.

3X is impossible or so tight it looks silly sillly silly

All of this is through Romans or LaneBryant catalog.

Will I ever fit into a Large????????????????????

I wonder

Wow Nykee, 40 lbs in a little over a month, that's awesome. I am one of the vertically challanged as Zoe put it and I didn't see a difference until I lost 30 lbs, BUT, I gained 12 lbs of muscle. Good luck with your new journey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
