Acid feeling - is this normal.

Recommended Posts

I am getting the stangest feeling in my stomach. It is really hard to describe but is kind of like acid is attacking my stomach lining but it doesnt feel like acid reflux. It seems to happen when I lie on my left side or when my stomach is gurgling after all the food has emptied out of the pouch. It goes away after a few minutes (or until I turn over)but is really uncomfortable for a little while.

Is this normal, has anyone else experienced this.

I have the same thing that happens. Except that it isn't just when I am done eating. I wake up at night with the gurgling and heartburn feeling. What is it that causes this?

Mine wakes me up at night as well. I have stopped it in teh past by having a yoghurt so I dont know if it is because my stomach is completely empty.

I'm sorry you are having this trouble. It doesn't happen to me but it might just be because my surgeon makes all of his patients take Prevacid for three months after the surgery. (I'm taking a generic version because of my insurance.) Definitely call your surgeon because you might be suffering unnecessarily! Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
