Dr. R. Rutledge

Recommended Posts

I know he is old news. But 2 things just get to me with his demonetization of the lap band. These things are nothing against the MGB procedure but the surgeon who "promotes" it.

1. This is from a lapbander who wants a revision from their clos.net site

Dear Dr. Rutledge:

I live in Mexico City, 350 lbs. I had a laparoscopic lap band surgery in March 2005 in Mexico, it worked for around 3 months I lost around 30 lbs. I started to eat large quantity of food without almost no restriction, I regained all the weight back, I have been injected saline solution 2 times in 2 years with no results.

I'm interested in having the Lap Band removed and having a mini gastric surgery this summer ... Jorge A R. Mexico

Its obvious this person got the band in, maybe got one fill and complained she gained all her pre and post op surgical weight loss and only went in for a fill 2 times over 2 years? Yea, thats a great example of a failed lap band.

2. He has a video of two people that had their bands removed and going into a MGB. Sure these people had problems but half their story didn't make sense.

The video is only half the story. If you watch the video or don't, just look at Dr. Rutledge's comments from jsut 3 months ago. He is actually citing LabBandTalk.com forum polls at evidence.

A DOCTOR SHOWING FORUM POLLS AS EVIDENCE HIS PROCEDURE IS BETTER? IS HE INSANE? HE SHOULD BE DISBANDED, DISBARRED, OR WHATEVER THEY DO TO DOCTORS WHO BEHAVE SO IRRATIONALLY.

Here is the you tube video:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
