Tell me what your MD ordered for a post op diet. I am starving and just wandering what others are doing. I was banded on 4/2 and had to do Clear Liquids for 5 days (that was easy I wasnt hungry), then full liquids for 5 days(bad now appetite came back yesterday), then I will do 5 days of mushies before starting solids.

Hi, I know exactly what you mean. I had surgery on 4/3 and when my swelling went down and the gas pains subsided, I was hungry. My pre-op diet is just like yours. I called my surgeon on 4/8 and told him that I was hungry and they moved me to phase two (all liquids instead of just clear). I was not drinking my Protein Shakes and when I started incorporating them in my diet, I felt so much better. I have an appointment tomorrow and I am going to see if they can move me to mushies because I want some veggies and some more Protein (pureed chicken, tuna, etc.). My advice would be to call your surgeon and see what they advise you to do. Good Luck!!!

As far as mushies, I did chicken salad, tuna, grits, oatmeal, basically anything that can be mushed up and swallowed easily( but not potatoes...they seem to hinder weight loss, at least for me). Walmart has these bags of Flounder and when you put them in the oven for 20 minutes, they mush up really well. I also made what you can call a meatless lasanga(sp). I got Ricotta cheese, Mozarella cheese, and American cheese, and spaghetti sauce...Layered all that up and baked it for 30 minutes....It was goood and very filling. Hope this helps a little bit.....

it's is soooo good, easy to make, and very close to "real food"...but still relatively healthy. I was able to eat on the pan that I made for like 3 days, then I was sick of it....LOL

Refried Beans mixed with a little broth to soften it with a little mozarella cheese on top was heavenly when i went to mushies. It is strange that I don't eat this now . . . but it really hit the spot after the liquid diet was finished.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
