banded 02/08/2007--85 pounds lost. SOOOO happy about that unitl ( you knew that was coming !) about 6 weeks ago. was eating ok, being cautious, but eating my fair share came to a screeching halt. Canot stop getting sick, keep going back to clear liqiuds, had all the fliud removed from the band, confirmed no slippage or corrosion. I am thinking about having surgery reversed, but REALLY don't want to do that. I am at the end of my rope! does anyone have any thoughts or advice?

Amy

huh? this is pretty puzzling. Do you maybe have some sort of swelling around your band?

I am just curious, how have lost all that weight since your banding?

I would not have the band removed so fast, here could be other things going. Before you get yourself worked up consult with your physician and be guided by his/her advice. Personally I don't think your band slipped, I think that something else is going on.

Amy,

I believe your doctor should have you go through an endoscopy so that can go down and see what is happening.

My husband had Gastric Bypass surgery in 1995. It was rou-en-y with a band. In 2000 he had some trouble and at first was told that it was ulcers, which it was, but they were caused by the band eroding his stomach. He had to go in and get the band removed.

I don't want to scare you, but I would definitely ask your doctor to do the endoscopy so they can see through the camera what exactly is going on.

What did they do to check the band is still in place?

Or have you been checked for gastritis or similar which can cause similar symptoms as well.

Also, when you say getting sick do you mean you actually vomit or do you just feel nauseous or other symptoms?

Please keep us posted , being a bandster myself, I am interested in whats going on with you. But still don't panic and keep your head up. I hope that it's something minor.

You lost 85 pounds! Don't get it reversed! I understand sometimes it can make you sick and sometimes you'rea t the end of your rope, but you have already lost so much, why not just keep up the good work?

Eat to live, don't live to eat. You'll just gain it all back and that would suck.

Ok, so I was really freaking out on friday night, ready to go to the ER, was so tired of getting sick, the whole 9 yards. My dad talked me out of the ER, they would not have done anything over the wekeend anyway. Really took it easy , just drank warm tea with unflavored Unjury (unjury.com) Protein Powder. Seemed to help, continued on Saturday with more Protein powder. Was able to talk to my family and get some stressful things off my chest (I swear i felt it loosen immediately) Feeling much better today, just still going slow. Talked to Dr, he said to do all this and if I was still throwing up we would do an endoscopy. have no thrown up in 3 days. As to how I lost so much so quick, STRESS !! I had my life tuned upside down six months after being banded, my mom passed away suddenly, be the only responsible sibling, I have been taking care of just about everything and am not building a house with my future husband so i think i really just needed to get my feelings off my chest! It is amazing how much this has changed my life. I thank you all for your thoughts and support.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
