Hi, I am a 53 year old female with 2 grown sons, a husband I adore of 34 years and 3 great dogs that have not asked for my car keys EVER! I have been overweight for about 20 years and now have had 4 abdominal surgeries. One was to remove 1foot of colon and a bag was place and then the reversal. My surgeon said my abdominal walls are paper then, I do have 2 new hernias, not to do abdominal exercises. This really effects the back since my core muscles are almost non-existent and they are the ones that help support the back. This is where I may need some help esp from any one in N.C. with Medicaid. I am in the process of applying and am currently waiting to go before the judge. I just had EXTENSIVE neck surgery but am left with a bulging disk in the lumber area where my stomach core muscles help support.. I know the extra 75 to 90 lbs is not helping my back problems. I am currently on soma,Valium and 6, 7.50 norco daily to control the pain. My PCP is very willing to help me get this through Medicaid and I have found a doctor in a center of excellence that accepts Medicaid. My height is 5'4 ' and i weigh in at 223. Does any one have advice for me on helping get Medicaid to pay? My aim is to get off the meds and especially keep from going to a pain clinic where 2 doctors have already wanted to send me. I would so appreciate any feedback {on the topic I meant to say a no pun intended.}

There is an Insurance questions forum thread and I'd say post a question there too. Also this website has a Search capability and its a little hard to find. Look on the far top right of the screen just under the tool bar area for your browser and you should see Bookmark Us! then Site Map, then Advanced Search! the screen is pretty easy to use if you put in the keywords you want to get matches on like Medicaid. Best of luck!

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

      I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
