Has anyone's family been negative about them getting this surgery? My mom and my brother who are skinny, think I should just exercise more and eat better. I just hate hearing these comments. Luckily I have a supportive husband and some friends who are supportive. It is just so frustrating!:huh2:

You know when my Mother & Brother were living they were always thin. Exp. my brother he was like 6'1 and about 185lbs he could eat anything and could eat anything he wanted and wouldn't gain any weight.... they would tell me the same thing.. just back up from the table and workout.. now he use to be in the army... so he acted a lot like harvey from celeb. fit club..lol like GET UP GET UP GET YOUR ASS UP AND RUN......NOW...NOW...im like dude im over 300lbs i cant run i will break my freekn ankles... r u crazy... so i do understand...but your metabolism is diffrent from theirs so u have to do whats best for you. Now my support system is my mother & brother because they understood before they both passed on how hard it was & is for me so just DO U.....

It is VERY frustrating when the very people you want and expect to be supportive of you just can't be. My mother is the same way. Sometimes it makes me feel like she doesn't want me to be healthy. Fortunately, although pretty unsure about it at first, my husband has come around and has become very supportive. Good luck to you and keep your chin up!

I have decided to tell only a few people. I told my brother & his wife, and another sister-in-law 2 weeks ago that I was going thru this process and they were against it. Try one more diet, are u sure you have tried everthing, just exercise more. My husband was on the border, but has now come around (he was worried about the surgery).

So basically I have only 4 supportive people in my journey and have decided that if anyone asks when they see me eating less or doing liquids that I will just say I have an upset stomach or something. This is ONE more thing I am trying and want it to be the LAST thing I do to beat my weight issues. Good Luck and don't let anyone get u down, they don't know what it is like to live in our skin!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
