Is Your Stomach Loud?

Recommended Posts

I know this sounds funny, but yesterday was my first post-op visit!!! Lost 12 pounds!!! Ok, so I am finally allowed to have shakes - yippee!!!! Here is the thing, about 1 - 2 minutes after each sip, I feel the shake going down and you wouldn't believe the sound it makes. I am sure that if someone was here, there would hear it and comment. Also, i feel full and i am only half-way through my morning shake.

As your journey progresses you will notice all kinds of funny sounds coming from your stomach and from your throat. It is the stangest thing and sometimes comical . My family gets a kick out of the sounds I make now. Luckily for me I have not been anywhere in public where people have noticed, it is mainly at the dinner table with my family. You are normal :)

The sounds that come out of you are so funny sometimes, my kids have a ball with them and the funniest thing happened the other night, I leaned over to kiss my husband good night and this really loud gurguling came from my throat, we started laughing so hard, he said he didn't know he could cause such an uproar in me..

LOL... oh yes! We all have funny sounds, but none is painful... just noisy - but not very distracting! Just the sounds of food digesting.

My boyfriend and I used to laugh about the noises too, but now that I'm single and dating, it's really starting to annoy me! I hadn't really had the noise problem for a while, but at the beginning of March I got a very slight fill and for some reason, the noises are back with a vengence! I don't suppose anybody has any tips for calming the beast? My date tonight is making us dinner at his house, so I won't have the din of a restaurant to cover the noise =(

I now have "reverse burps" where when I open my mouth to say something I will suddenly have a huge intake of air and make a VERY loud OP noise. It's pretty funny. I've also had the experience where I will make sounds like a bath tub draining...

I am so glad you brought this up Marie. This is one of my BIGGEST fears. I haven't dated in two yrs & after I am banded am sure I will want too. I am very worried about the noises & trying to explain them . I don't want to tell people I am just starting to date that I am banded. I hope someone will have advise for us.

I'm so glad you other singletons out there are going through the same thing! Ok, I just started seeing a new guy. Our first date was a lunch date, and I ordered Soup and ate like 3 bites. So of course he was kinda wondering what was up. Then when we were making plans for a second date, he mentioned something about going out to dinner, so I just came clean about the band so I wouldn't have to sidestep the issue through another meal. And he was totally cool about it (thank goodness!). So our second date was Friday night, and then Saturday night we hung out and I swear, every time I'd take the tiniest sip of Water my throat would start making that gurgling funnel noise! It was so embarrassing! I wanted to kiss the guy, but I couldn't drink enough water to get rid of my nervous cotton-mouth and it was just a horrible, uncomfortable cycle. What's a girl to do??

I just laugh about it. I'm not dating anyone because I have an exclusive contract with my DH... :) Oh, and for me to joke about bodily functions is a HUGE step for me. Growing up we were not permitted to have bodily functions, or appear to have them anyway.

I find humor to be a great weapon/tool.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
