Texas Doctor...Tricare Insurance...No Family Support

Recommended Posts

Well I'm new to thsi site. I'm interested in getting the lapband done, but wondering if anyone in TEXAS has had the procedure done and Tricare insurance paid for it. I was looking at the True Results website and they say they don't take tricare. So what doctors would I be referred to?

Also, I want this procedure, but my husband would be 100% against it. He is a marine/navy man who is in GREAT shape. He believes that all can be done with working out and nothing else. Well I've tried working out and nothing really happens. I lose then gain more. I have 4 beautiful children and have been pregnant for half of our marriage. But weight has really been an issue for our marriage. I want to do this because all of my kids are under 6 (5, 3, 16 months, 14 weeks). I would pretty much have to do this whole process alone and without my husbands support. So my last question would be to see if anyone has done the process alone and what do you think?

Hi there! I am from Conroe, TX and had Lapband surgery Feb 19th. I used Dr. Felix Spiegel in Houston - he is one of the very best and does take Tricare Prime. If your hubby isn't too happy about it - take him to the seminar with you - it convinced my husband 100%.

I have documented my entire journey with my insurance and everything on my Blog - if you click on the link in my signature - it will take you there.

I would be more than happy to help you with anything! Just ask!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
