You upcoming banders......just hold onto the excitement and enjoy the ride. This is the beginning of a whole new life. It is so worth it when you end up with a control over food that you never had before. It gives you confidence knowing that you have the ability to eat healthy and make good choices. I have been able to experience fullness and satisfaction in small portions that I never had before. It is like a miracle. I am about 10 days post op and feel tremendous. You have a few days of mild pain but it is easily fixed with pain meds and walking. Be sure and follow your Dr's program to a T and all will be well. My very best wishes to you on this fantastic journey!!! Becky

Thanks Becky. Maybe I am weird but I do not worry about the pain (like it is not painful to haul all of this weight around anyway) but I am concerned about the adjustment to a new relationship with food. It's so good to read the posts and see that the band can work if you work with it. I think because I have lost weight so many times and have not been successful in the weight loss maintenance department I am feeling cautious.

Hi Christine, I too was afraid of yet another failure at weight loss but I see that this is just going to reinforce positive behavior changes because if you do what the drs tell you, you consistently lose weight. That sets you up to try harder. I know that in the past I would always start a new diet and exercise program with such enthusiasm only to get little results back for my efforts. Then I would get depressed and start my crummy eatin patterns again because I would just give up after a few unsuccessful weeks. This gives you postive results right away and then you feel like you can do anything. My hardest thing right now is trying get enough food in.....what a switch!! It is a lovely feeling to have this confidence and control for once in my life. You are going to be amazed!! Becky

This is so hard-its Thursday and I have seven more days. I have not cheated yet. I keep telling myself it is self control and I need to do this. Ahhhhh...... So hard to cook for the family and I have to drink a shake. I have Memorial Day Family Picnic to go to. Sister-in-law called for recipe for the party and I agreed to bring a fruit bowl. I plan on bringing my Protein and magic bullet. Sorry I had to complain to someone; just having a tough day.

Hi Lucy12...Yeah, this is going to be a challenging time for you on the pre op diet and the holidays and food. Bring yourself some Jello or sugar free pudding as a back up plan in case you want to cheat. That would be better than anything else. It is hard right now but after surgery you will be able to go to parties with confidence that your tool will keep you from having a big caloric blow out. Your tummy just won't let you stuff yourself anymore. I am now about 12 days post op and I will be going to holiday get togethers with NO FEAR!. I will try and make good choices and have just little tastes of things. My plan is to have a good Protein source before I leave the house, and then sip on Water to keep my stomach full. I will be able to eat but it will be 1/2 of what I was able to put away before my LB. I love the freedom this has given me. I keep saying it, but it feels like a miracle. Just do the best you can and be prepared. It will be so worth it and so much easier once you have your band in place....trust me on that one. Best Wishes and have a happy holiday. Becky

Hello Sphinx, I will be banded on May 29th also. I'm nervous but so ready. I've been at this since January going thru all the required doctor visits and was approved fast. I'm on a two-week semi-liquid diet and have struggled some. Now it's a week away and we are going away for the weekend to a graduation with family. It will be so hard but I WILL do it. I'm taking all the foods and shakes with me. Wish me luck and I hope all goes well for you also.

Recovery is a big one for me. I'm allergic to codeine pain meds so doctor wants me to get liquid adult tylenol for pain. I pray that the pain is manageable with that. I just switched from Slimfast High Protein Shakes to Adkins Advantage. I noticed a bigger amount of sugar with slimfast. Both had same amount of Protein. So hopefully I can control the food cravings for one more week!! May 29th is just around the corner.

Band date: 5/29/08 :cool2:

Becky...thank you for the kind word of encouragement!

Kaytay....as I go out...you will go in! Best of Luck....

I get mailed a Medifast tip on e-mail today and I thought it was especially good so here it is:

So many of us think of ourselves as “good” or “bad” depending on what we’ve eaten or whether we’ve exercised. Resist making these kinds of moral judgments about your health habits. If you eat something outside the typically recommended choices of the 5 & 1 Plan or indulge in an “extra” treat when in maintenance, you may have set yourself a bit further back from reaching your goals. But you're fine! You haven't lied, stolen, or committed murder. One misstep on your weight-loss program does not equal the sum of all of your choices and character traits. Keep your pursuit of health in perspective!

I thought it was well put.

Best of Luck and Keep up the Great work! Shelley

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
