I am so excited for all of us too. I am already on the list but wanted to say I'm on May 16 and going to Dr. Zapata in Monterrey, Mexico (after a ton of research on him of course). My mother, who is an RN, will be accompanying me - although I am 36, LOL. My husband and I thought it would be better for her to go since she is a nurse.

After 3 months of jumping thru hoops for Aetna, I finally have a date, May 20. I was surprised they only took a week to decide. I can't say enough how excited I am to finally have the hope to recognize a 25 yr old dream. I'm not scared but oh so anxious, I wish it was tomorrow!

I know your excited about getting your lap-band surgery this month. I had mine Mar 18th and got my first fill Apr 28th. I'm sure you know what to expect. I can tell you I'm real happy that I had it done for many many

reasons. I had mine at Duke University in North Carolina. They had me fast on Liquid Protein for about 10 days before my surgery and then they weighed me. I wish they had weighed me first then my loss would seem more dramatic. I had been dieting most of my adult life without much success until I joined a program with BC/BS. I did good with that but as usual I stopped and started gaining it back. My official weigh in was 329

March 18th and I have lost, so far, down to 287. This is the first time in many years that I feel so encouraged I have been going out at sun up and

walking 2 1/2 miles.

If I can give you a heads up on anything let me know

Bob

I went to my first consult with the surgeon today so I am starting the journey in May so hope I can join you all in the journey ! I think the consult raised more questions than I had to start with. The doc said lose weight before the op. but not how much or even how ! if i knew how I wouldnt need the surgery. I have 75 to lose after the banding. How did you all lose weight before your surgeries? thanks

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
