:smile:I had my lap band surgery on March 31st...I'm two weeks post op right now...you always hear of all the good things after the surgery, well thought I would post some of the "down sides" of surgery, well MINE ANYWAY!..I woke up in HORRIBLE pain!! They couldn't control my pain with what they were giveing me so they changed the pain med to something MUCH stronger, which relieved the pain somewhat, but not all of course...I really wasn't expecting it to be that bad, after talking to alot of my friends that have had it and considering this was my 9th surgery I've had, four of them were back surgeries, so I thought this one couldn't be all that bad, which compared to the back surgeries it wasn't but still was in ALOT of pain...the pain was really bad first several days..had the surgery on a Monday and by Thursday was feeling ALOT better...I woke up , EMMEDIATELY, with HORRIBLE gas pains! Which I didn't expect either, usually it's like the third or fourth day before that really kicks in, but not this time! well by that Saturday night, I WAS SOOO SICK! I fought nasea the whole time I was in the hosptial, they were giveing me pheregen and sent me home on it...had to start takeing it again, SOOO SICK TO MY STOMACHE! By Monday, I was worse, called doctor and went to hospital, was admitted, EXTREMELY DEHYDRATED! Due to all the "fullness" I felt in the upper part of my stomach, like where the pouch is, and the band..couldn't get down much Fluid at all, very little...anyway they ran alot of tests including another swollow study to make sure the band hadn't slipped, it was good, THANK GOD! Was scared I may have to have another surgery...they wanted to keep me another day, but I refused and came home yesturday, can get more rest here at home than in the hospital, that's for sure...I'm feeling much better today, thank goodness...I wasn't hungry the first three days, but now, I'M STARVING! My doctor is pretty strict with the diet I have to be on...first two weeks nothing but liquids...no Jello, pudding, cream Soups, ..only Clear Liquids, which is killing me right now!!...thrid and fourth week, mushies like...cream soups, jello , puddings, blended oatmea, eclttt..anything that can be blended into a mushie...anyway, thought I'd share my experience with everyone...by the way, I'm still VERY sore inside, I have NO IDEA how people go back to work like in a week or so, there is NO WAY I COULD! Most that I've talked to say they are pretty much back to normal within a week or so, NOT ME!! Of course I have to the be difficult one...lol...anyhoo, just wanted to share and maybe it will help others out there...GOD BLESS, HOPE

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
